Has anyone ever tried it?
I'd like to start getting into the habit of eating a good cereal in the morning. But I HATE milk and do not drink it. I'm kind of "meh" about soymilk. It's ok, but I wouldn't choose it. So I was looking into the Silk Almond Milk lineup. I have heard it has a nice sweet taste and I like that there are a couple of different flavors, plus a non-sweetened one and it seems to be an overall healthy and nutritious alternative.
Just wondering if anyone had any experience with it?

I'm probably going to take a look at the Kashi or Fiber-One brands.
ETA - I get the Silk brand.
There's also a product called So Delicious which makes coconut milk. Like, as a "milk" beverage - it's not as thick as canned coconut milk, it's the same consistency as regular milk. It's REALLY good. It's in the refridgerated area with other milks and it comes in a half gallon carton.

[QUOTE]Blegh. I hate Kashi. I always make fun of their ads for boasting about flavor. Their stuff tastes like cardboard to me. I get stuff like quaker oatmeal squares, frosted mini wheats, grape nuts, special k with a little sugar or fruit... I can't stand health cereals. I have to have a little sugar.

I actually don't mind the Kashi cereals. It's their granola bars I'm not a fan of. Yeck.
Also, coconut milk (in a carton, not a can). Rice milk always seemed watery to me. Even more so than soy milk.
I'm with Reddy. Kashi cereal is gross and expensive. There is a similar kind, I think it's called Cascadian Farms or something. It's decent.
Thanks for all the feedback, I think I'm going to give it a try this weekend and see how it works out. : )

<div>That's kind of why I like it. I think it has a thinner, silky texture, whereas soy has always tasted too grainy or heavy to ever taste or feel 'creamy' to me.</div><div>

[QUOTE]<strong>I like almond milk, but it is a little sweet</strong>. Soy milk is gross and rice milk is meh. H and I went through a phase where we were weirded out by drinking something from a cow's boob, so we tried different stuff. We got over it after a while and now drink moo juice, but almond milk is good. I'm with Reddy. Kashi cereal is gross and expensive. That's why I'm thinking if I pair it with a non-sweet cereal, it will kind of balance it out. it will taste good but not be all full of sugar, you know? At least I hope that's what happens, haha.
Our pantry is the most bizarre thing ever. I like to eat really healthy things, and Ben eats like a child. So right next to my Kashi cereal is his Froot Loops.
[QUOTE]Ew, Nathan LOVES Lucky Charms. I shudder just thinking about it. He has a huge sweet tooth though, and always eats a bowl of that or a coffee cake before bed. Vom.

<div>I remember as a kid I'd eat all the cereal out first so that I had a big bowl of marshmallows in milk at the end. BARF.</div><div>
</div><div>For some reason that reminded me of Halloween, sorting all my candy and eating all the smarties first. My poor mother.</div>

[QUOTE]I really like the Cinnamon wheat things (they're just like mini-wheats) and I just bought these little Cinnamon O's and hearts. They look like Cheerios, and they taste good. I like them, anyway :) Our pantry is the most bizarre thing ever. I like to eat really healthy things, and Ben eats like a child. So right next to my Kashi cereal is his Froot Loops.

Haha, FI is the same. Then again, he can eat a cheeseburger and chicken nuggets, cake and nachos and not gain a pound from it, so more power to him I guess.

Ben is the same way. He's a skinny guy with chicken legs who eats anything he wants. All I have to do is think about fudge and I can feel my thighs expand.
It's higher in protein, omega-3's, and antioxidants than milk (and it has 60 calories per cup, as opposed to 120 calories for 1% milk), but it has almost no protein. As long as you don't rely on dairy for your protein, you should be fine.
DH loves it because we're pretty sure he's lactose intolerant, and he doesn't want his soy intake to be too high (we eat a lot of tofu and edamame as it is), so almond milk is a good option for him. I just think it's tasty!
Re: rice milk, Glamour just had an article comparing different milks. If you like the taste of rice milk, go for it, but there's not much to it in terms of nutrition.

K Byte, I go through stages when I'm grossed out by milk/eggs, stop eating it, and then I get over it. I don't think I could go vegan, but I like to reduce my liquid milk intake when I can. Cheese/yogurt doesn't bother me, so I think it's that milky smell you were talking about it.
