Snarky Brides

Tell me about your workouts.

What do you do?  Do you work out at home?  At a gym?  Just cardio?  Just strength?  Both?  Classes?  Favorite workout song?

I was pretty darn sure this post was going to say something about sex.  Pretty darn sure.  But I was wrong.

  • I'm a gym person with a mixture of cardio, weights and ball work.  Although this week has been almost all cardio.  We don't have classes at my gym, which is fine with me.

My favorite workout song lately has been Glee's Like a Virgin.

  • I, uh, don't.

I used to love going to yoga though, I'd do it in a studio 2-3 times a week and it was awesome.
I hate cardio but love weights.
  • What workout?  I took a yoga class 3x a week for a 3.5 month semester and loved it.  That's the extent of my exercise, though.

I lift weights.  Heavy weights.  And pretty much exclusively.  I do some HIIT, but only when my program calls for it.  Oh, and I love it!

  • I'm insecure at the gym.....and I'd rather not pay to work out.  I'm big on working out because since they've lowered my meds I've been feeling better and I need to lose this steroid weight.  Some days I run 5-6 miles on the elliptical (while knotting on ipad of course!) and then do strength training with kettle bells.  Other times I mix it up and swim 3 miles and then run three miles.  I prefer to swim for my cardio but I often get distracted and will end up laying out and splashing around before my workout is over.  I work out 5-6 times a week.
  • I've danced (ballet, tap, various dance teams) since I was little, and I still do that. I also do pilates every day. That's pretty much the extent of it...dancing and pilates.

  • I hate gyms (insecure and broke) so I do everything at home. Depending on how I feel it's a toss up between running (C25K program), 30 Day Shred, Billy Blank Tae Bo, Katrina pilates or a pilates/ballet fusion video series I found on youtube.

When I started losing weight I was really good about my work out. I would do 30 mintues of Tae Bo, 10 minutes of a dance cardio video, then 20 minutes of yoga. Now I'm forcing myself to do 30 minutes again.
  • I do bootcamp at the gym 3 times a week (usually), and that's about all I get in.  But we do a lot of different things: cardio on the bikes/treadmills/stairs, lots of bodyweight resistance with added weights, if it's a smaller turnout one day she'll have us do freeweight sets.  When I'm with the trainer, she puts me hard on the freeweights, which I really like and would be doing more if I wasn't doing the bootcamp 3 times a week.  When I'm done with bootcamp, I'll be doing the weights more.

For songs, I prefer the fast paced rock, but I'm starting to think I should download some more of this Lady Gaga and Kesha stuff.

I do cardio and weights. Cardio usually consists of HIIT on either the bike or the treadmill. My trainer is trying to get me to start using the stair climber but im resisting.
Weights is a mixed bag, Right now I do whatever my trainer tells me but generally 1 day is lower body, 1 day is upper body, 1 day is a mix of both. I do anywhere from 5-8 exercises, with 4 sets of 10-15 reps (15 in the first set, down to 10 in the last one).

We dont have a lot of money but the gym is kind of one of my priorities, I have to fit it into our budget or bad things happen.

I am the cardio queen - I will go to the Y after work and do anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half of cardio.  I always switch it up - sometimes I run for a half hour, then do a half hour on the elliptical and then another twenty minutes on a bike.  Other times I'll do ten to fifteen minutes apiece on a bunch of machines.

A while ago I stopped doing my abs, pushups and buns exercises - but I'm going to be starting those again soon with the wedding sneaking up on me.

I have a number of pilates DVDs that I will use on days I don't feel like going to the gym.

  • For those of you that work out at home and use DVDs and didn't already mention the names, could you, would you, please and thank you?

  • My home DVDs are Mari Windsor's pilates - she's awesome :) My favorite is her complete body workout with the Pilates Circle.

  • I tried Pilates back when I was struggling with my SI joint.  I really enjoyed it, but my joint couldn't handle it.  I couldn't stand upright or lay flat for two days after (bad pain, not good workout soreness pain).  But now I might give it a shot again.  Could you recommend a good beginner's Pilates DVD?

  • at home.. if it is a cool night I will go for a job.. if not I will do a cardio video using weights with it.. I also want to get a pedometer for my walking and running

  • Hmm... don't know off hand any good strictly beginner's Pilates DVDs, but on the ones I have, Mari has one of her demonstrators exercising in modified positions - they are meant to still target the areas, but also be sensitive if you have trouble with your neck, back, or whatever.  Does that sound like something you're looking for or are you looking for more strictly beginner Pilates?

No that would probably work.  I'm in decent shape.  I work out, I do yoga enough that I'm fairly flexible.  So I think I would catch on and get into it fairly quickly, I'd just need the modifications for the first couple times I think.

  • I do a 4-day split which ends up being 2 full body workouts a week.

    Monday - Cardio only
Tuesday - Upper body and cardio
Wednesday - Lower body and cardio
Thursday - Upper body and cardio
Friday - Lower body and cardio

However - I've been skipping the gym A LOT lately, so my schedule has been more like this:

Monday - oops, I slept in
Tuesday - maaaybe 10 mins of cardio
    Wed-Sun - gym? what gym?

I love Katrina Pilates, which you can find on youtube for free. The sessions are broken down into Warm Up, Strength, Abs/Back, and Cool down. When I started I just did warm up, then warm up strength, warm up abs, and started adding more in.

Billy Blanks Tae Bo and 30DS for cardio/strength

I also used to watch Core Rythms on youtube and want to buy the dvd set, but it's $70 for the whole set so yeah...it was a fantastic cardio work out though.

I need to beef up my dvd collection. I really want to get AE Active for my wii though. I borrowed my sil's and loved it.

[QUOTE]I highly recommend BIlly Blanks' Tae Bo workout videos and Jillian Michaels' 30-Day Shred video. Those two videos toned me up like whoa. I mean, as long as you're watching your diet, the workout works like magic. Supposedly, the P90X workout videos are pretty good too but I don't think I wanna shed that much money for workout videos. Mr. S's co-workers are raving non-stop about it.

I have 30DS and I'm not a huge fan.  I thnk it's mostly becaues Jillian annoys me.    Fi and I are thinking about trying P90X.  I would never spend that much but he really wants to, so I'll do it with him!  I'm also kind of interested in TurboFire.

[QUOTE]JK, do you have channels on demand? Seriously, check out Exercise TV on Demand. They have Pilates workouts and if you look at the info, it will say whether the workout videos are for beginners or intermediate. There are tons and tons of different workouts. I love. it.

Yeah, we do, I just never think of it.  Maybe I'll peruse it now!

Also?  I feel like Sophie is staring into my soul.

  • I ride my bike every day. It's nice on my joints but I feel like I get a full-body workout. I also do core workouts every other day, and yoga on the WiiFit. If I get the opportunity to swim, I do that too. Anything that's nicey on my joints. I was running for a period of time, but I had too many knee problems so I gave that up.

  • I feel like I need a bigger picture of Demon in my sig so she can join the cute kitty gang...

Jillian annoys me at times but 30DS is my "I don't feel like doing anything, ok do Shred then, ugh I hate you inner voice" work out haha.
  • Yeah, Minka loves my yoga mat.  Unfotunately, she also loves me on the floor, so I have to shut her out of the room when I do yoga or she'll climb all over me, headbutt me, attack my feet, or try to push me off the yoga mat.

I'll do 30DS, but I don't feel like it's enough cardio so it's sort of my "meh" workout. Usually I just brisk walk/jog on the treadmill for about 1.5 miles or do the equivalent on the elliptical. I work out 4 or 5 days a week. Workout videos I'll do at home, otherwise I go to our apartment complex's gym. Also, if you have Netflix streaming, you can stream certain workout DVDs. They're under Genres > Sports and Fitness > Workouts.

  • I love Denise Austin's Hit the Spot Pilates.  You can cutomize your workout to target whatever body parts you want.   I also do her Boot Camp DVD.  Sometimes I will work in Dancing with the Stars Latin Cardio Dances, but that's about it.
  • Yeah, youtube for free makes me happy. Plus that way you can see if you like work out programs before committing to them. I've gone through a lot of really bad pilates shows and would have been pissed if I had bought each one of dvd.

Demon HAS to lay down next to me if I'm doing any matwork. When she was little she would curl up on my chest when I did crunches. It's like wearing a weight vest!

Katie is the bad one now. The other day I was doing downward dog (yoga pose where your butt is in the air) and she crawled through my legs and just stood underneath of me with a dopey grin on her face. I couldn't believe her.
