H and I are ordering a backsplash this week. We have narrowed things down to travertine tile. We have DARK granite and maple counters and we like the countrast. The issue is- do we want tumbled travertine, polished or can we mix?
We are thinking we could go with this TUMBLED 4x4 square as the main element. We would start with one row of it. (ignore the funny line and color on the tile, it's just a sample and we would get a single toned one).
Then we would do a 4 inch "border" row of this polished travertine in a basketweave.
We would then finish with the tumbled.
Would mixing the two look terrible? The big squares have that rough, tumbled finish while the others have a smooth finish and shine. I was thinking that since the polish will be the border, it will just pop.
Should we go with all of one? Helps? We were originally going to go with glass tiles but H convinced me that travertine will still be modern, but a bit more timeless...
