Shipping to Canada question

I'm doing a Secret Santa on my club board (I wasn't around very much for the sign up here, and missed it.  Boo.) and my person is in Canada.

I looked on the USPS website and found the prices and estimated shipping times, but is there anything else I need to know?  Any extra fees or rules on what I can or can't ship?  I was thinking about sending some candy-type things, and I'd hate for Canadian mail to think I was trying to blow them up with chocolate buckeyes.

Thanks!

Re: Shipping to Canada question

  • Ha, if I have any extras, of course!  I'm a little worried that if I make them, there won't even be any to send to my SS because I'll eat them all. :-)
  • If you have questions about specific items, it's probably best to contact Canadian customs directly.  That's what we recommend people do for shipping things into the US.
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • Thanks, Tide.  I'll check that out now.

And if I can't ship chocolate...more buckeyes for me.  Darn. Wink
  • Shellydiane just sent me a box full of poptarts and there SEEMS to have been no issues, a concern is being charged custom duties after the fact but it arrived without a hitch. You will have to disclose what is on the box though.

<div>I wonder if there's a difference in rules depending on whether it's homemade? I thought I remembered that when I went to send something to a friend who was studying abroad. I could send her taco seasoning (yes, random I know), but not homemade cookies.</div>

<div>I don't think you can send baked goods unless it's by air. I could be wrong though.</div>
  • Thanks for the info, ladies.  I think I'll probably just steer clear of food items, just in case.

    I appreciate the help!
