It seemed like a good idea at the time...

After my act of stupidity yesterday I got to thinking of other things I've done that seemed like a good idea at the time but were in fact not.

The last time I went skiing, I was in France and somehow ended up on an expert run (I was a mediocre skier, at best).  Once I realized it, I couldn't turn back but knew I'd never make it down on skis either so I took them off thinking I could walk down.  I took 3 steps, hit some ice, dropped my skis and slid some 20 feet on my butt.  Another skier brought me my skis, muttered something about the "stupid American" and took off.  I ended up putting the skis back on and it took me 4 hours to get down the run.  I had ice burns on my face, a grapefruit sized bruise on my back and countless other bruises everywhere else.

What stupid thing have you done that you thought in the beginning was a good idea?

  • I wish I could blame my stupidity on alcohol.  Most of my WTF were you thinking moments happen sober.

  • Oh yeah, countless times in college where I had too much to drink.  One of which, I lost a pair of pants.  Which was unfortunate, because they were really cute pants.

  • A few years back H and I both had Saturday free and the Phillies were playing in Pittsburgh. On a whim we decided to wake up Saturday drive to Pittsburgh, go to the game and then drive back right after. It's a 12 hour round trip (plus we got stuck in a detour for an extra 2 hours). We had a blast, but at 3 am with another 2 hours until we were home, it started to get rough! We got home around 5 am and then H had to be at work at 9am.

I've also done the party-all-night-then-board-an-airplane-at-the-asscrack-of-dawn thing a few times.  You think I'd learn.

I promise I'm not as much of a lush as I sound right now.

Better than being so wasted that you piss behind a dumpster only to trip over your pants, smash head first into the dumpster, and knock yourself out.

  • Miracle Whip is never the right answer.  Eww.

I'm proud to say I've never lost a pair of pants while out drinking.  However I did think that 7 shots of tequila in less than an hour and on an empty stomach was a good idea, so I'm actually surprised I've never lost clothing.

I have some seriously stupid friends.

A good friend of ours (coincidently, the guy who's watching Lucy for us when we go skiing this week) got shitfaced drunk this past December with our group of friends.  They all walked home, while the remaining two - including this guy - decided to "walk" the block home.  But by walking, they actually meant "let's pull you on a skateboard behind my car."

Long story short, while he's getting pulled behind this car on a skateboard (by a drunk driver, no less) he of course loses control and goes flying.  He got road rash all over himself and really smacked his head really hard.  He had patches of hair missing and when he showed up at the apartment he had blood all over himself.

The stupidity doesn't end there, though.  The guy is clearly loopy and our friends just stayed up with him to make sure he didn't fall asleep, instead of taking him to the hospital.  But he still wasn't right a few days later so he went in to the ER and sure as shiit, he'd cracked his damn skull and suffered a severe concussion.

His hair just started growing back.

And he has my dog right now... lol.

  • jcb, what were you subbing miracle whip for? I'm confused.

When I was 14, I though I could handle driving a golf cart down a hill one handed. I crashed into a fence, and shattered my thumb. Not fun.

  • Holy hell AATB, that guy is insane.

  • A long, long time ago, my best friend and I decided it would be a good/fun idea to cook a pizza on mesh wire over a lightbulb.  I have NO idea why we thought this, or how the idea even came to existence.  We stood there holding it over the lamp for almost 3 hours, then finally gave up and finished cooking it in the microwave.  Not the best pizza I've ever had, but surprisingly not the worst, either.
    image
  • One of my friends thought he could jump from the roof of his house into his swimming pool (while extremely drunk) - not so much.  He hit the deck and shattered his foot.  A year (and 5 surgeries later), he tried it again but made it that time.

When I first moved away from college a friend of mine and I wanted to party and I mentioned how I had done ketamine in highschool so we decided to try and buy some. We didnt know anyone who sold it but were told to ask around downtown, so there we went wandering around downtown and finally found someone who sold us something. I just took it, paid for it and shoved it in my purse without looking at it. When we got back to my place it was a big with like little rocks in it and we had NO idea what it was and got freaked out and flushed it down the toilet lol That had bad news written all over it.

Oh, heres another one. When I was 15, my friend and I were walking down the street and a guy on a skateboard passed by and we whistled at him and he stopped and we started talking. He invited us to a "party" the next day, so we went. Said "party" was at his or his buddys apartment and the only people there were them and some chick and we proceeded to get absolutely tanked. Im pretty certain my friend took off and made out with one of the guys for a while before they walked us home and apparently I got mad at my pants and made my friend change pants with me in an alley behind a shopping centre, then when I got home I hurled everywhere and told my mom I ate bad chicken mc nuggets (my puke was bright red). I dont know how or why I remember all that, but it was so incredibly stupid to even get into that situation im surprised it ended up as well as it did.
  • When I was in HS I decided I would do a cart wheel in the hallway. I was in hs in the 90's and these ugly sweaters with long arms (a la Jennifer Love Hewitt in her Party of 5 days).  Well, my sweater slipped over my hands and I totally ate it in the hallway.  Asss over tea kettle right on my noggin.

One time I decided to play flip cup with Captain Morgans. For multiple hours. Edit: meaning three fingers worth of straight CM each game.

One time we went skinny dipping in the hotel pool at my friend's wedding. Then the cops came so we moved the party back to the hotel room and did body shots off the balconey. I whined to Mike I wanted to go home to our room and he might have mentioned the party was IN our hotel room. oops! There are also pictures of this night taken by the best man's creep show dad. Definitely a WTF night.

I always regret going out every single Friday night when I have work the next day but the dance party at our favortie bar is much too fun. I never learn.

Yes.  Its Morgan.  However, the cheapo knock off version is called Admiral Nelson's.  That one is plural.
