I'm doing one of those obnoxious things and not reading the entire thread first but it seems like we're still sort of on the subject of recommendations, so I recommend The 4400. It's 4 seasons long but the first season only has 6 episodes (was intended as a miniseries) and the other three are only 12 or 13 episodes I think. It's sooo good and I was devastated when it was cancelled, I think it kind of fell through the cracks around the time of that Hollywood writer's strike a couple years back.
