Snarky Brides

what do you like?

My mom announced her retirement today and she continually says that she loves what she does and that sparked my interest. What do you like about your job? How did you decide you wanted to do whatever it is? Anything you would change?

I love the people I interact with when I'm at work. Yes, many of them are criminals, but at the same time...I get some pretty good laughs as they try to justify themselves. I can't really pinpoint one particular thing that made me want to be a cop...but I pursued it knowing that people did doubt that I'd make it. I wanted to prove them wrong, but that wasn't my only driving force. The only thing I wish I could change?...Nothing. Every day is different and I like not being able to expect what's going to happen. Expect the unexpected :)

I love the people I work with, I love being in control, I like all of the organizing and logistics I have to do to make sure everything runs smoothly. I also kinda love that they would be absolutely lost without me, and know it, and treat me as such. Everyday, work is laughs, even if I hated my job I wouldnt mind it that much because of the people. Thatsone of the biggest parts.

There is a lot I would change, but thats just wish list type of things. We are a new company so a lot of stuff I would like to be able to do arent available to me yet and we are still growing. If I am patient, I will have probably everything I want.
  • Well I'm not in my field yet-mired in my senior year of college, but what I love about teaching is the opportunity to inspire a child and to show kids how much they can enjoy learning and thinking. I love seeing a kid's face light up when they "get it" and adore hearing impassioned kids debating about the Greek and Persian Wars. I relish the chance to elicit critical thinking through in class discussions on current events and how they connect to history.

Now just to find a teaching job!

Right now I work managing a fitness center and as an apparel sales associate. I like that I'm good at those jobs and the flexibility of hours but will be glad to quit once I have a teaching job!

  • i love what i do, and i wish i was completely done with my education. i want to get my  DNP and have my own practice in family medicine. i love to help people and the human body facinates me. if i could change anything about my job right now it would to have more autonomy. nurses have a lot of autonomy in some areas, and in other's we are limited.

  • I really am in love with literature and I want to bring that to my students.  Like Sere said, I love when they "get" it and I love hearing their views, not only on class material, but on the world issues.  I also love that every day is different and that it's a dynamic environment.
  • I love that everyday is different too, I love class discussions (I currently have grade 8), I love it when they 'get it', I love my current co-workers for the most part, I LOVE LOVE LOVE planning units, it's my favourite part of my job.

There is currently a fairly long list of stuff I am not loving. I ignore it as much as I can.
  • I don't care much for my current job, but I have to say, when I wasn't getting my ass kicked at my last job, I LOVED the population I worked with (EBD kids).  I seriously, seriously miss working with kids.  To the point that I've tossed around the idea of going back and getting my ass kicked some more.

If you would have told me a year and a half ago that I would be back to working with adults and miss working with kids and be wanting that for my career, I would have laughed at you until I had an asthma attack.

  • I love some of what I do.  I really love nursing, I feel that it's what I was meant to do.  I try my hardest to make my patients feel that they are cared for.  In my new job, I deal with a very underserved community (homeless, substance abuse, mental health, elderly, Medicare/aid, charity care), whom often times feel overlooked by the healthcare system.  They are amazing and surprise me every single day.

I don't like the amount of paperwork and documentation that goes along with nursing. Most of the time, you're just covering yourself for the case of "what if TUV sues me for XYZ."  It's a battle to maintain your license and cover your @ss.  It's probably a ratio like this:  for every five minutes you spend with a patient, you must document and chart for twenty minutes.  That's a system error for me.  I think the system has failed nurses in that manner.

Posted by cardmonsta[/QUOTE]<div>And I couldn't agree with you more. I've had to sit in the hospitals with criminal patients while they get cleared for transport or need to be transported back to detention a few times. It took forever and a day. I'm so appreciative to the men and women who are dedicated enough to overlook the paperwork, or not "mind" it so much as to continue to do the job.</div><div>And I love that there are so many teachers on here. I'm so grateful for everyone who has the dedication to students and keeping them in school. </div><div>I also love that I just got a call saying that I have been asked to speak at a career development day with my partner on our day off. Even though it's tomorrow and I had no time to prepare anything...I love that we were even invited.

  • I hear all of you guys on the paperwork.  The bueracracy BS is just out of control.  Why is it that people who serve others--cops, nurses, teachers, firefighters, etc--always have to fear all these legal repurcussions, when we're not even in the wrong.  It's scary.

<div>Sometimes people ARE in the wrong.  But I feel that the majority is that they weren't in the wrong, but just were swamped at the moment and failed to document what their interactions or roles had been in the situation.</div><div>
</div><div>They're moving nursing notes over to computerized documentation, which is amazing. But, there's a lot of refusals on older nurses to change to a new system. Also, there are so many brands of systems that it's hard to determine which is the best model.</div><div>

  • I just switched jobs, and am in the process of continuing my education. It is because of my work during my undergrad that I realized I needed to switch from the business field to law where I can more greatly help people and make a difference in the world rather than robbing society to line my own and others pockets. I love helping people and putting a smile on their face because I exceeded their expectations. Seeing that happiness in another person lifts my heart and makes me want to make as many people as possible that happy.
I was in sales for 2 years and two weeks ago I made a 2 second decision to change companies and fields into pure customer service. I love my new job because I love the people I work with, in just two weeks we have bonded as a team that works extremely well together, and choose to spend time with each other. It doesn't feel like going to work but going to hang out with friends.

Yeah, there's a difference between effectively finding and creating conequences for the few who are wrong and making everyone else suffer from the incompetency of a few. Blegh.
  • Cardmonsta agreed. Takes me 20 seconds to give a vaccine, another 30 minutes to hunt down orders/document it.

Some days I love feeling like a made a difference in a new family's life, some days I feel like I'm a glorified poop pusher. When a patient tells me it's my job to wipe her ass, I die a little inside.

    masters here I come
  • Wow Nik; big change. But it's go great you're doing something that you feel is a better fit! Added bonus that you love your job :)
