Ugh! Dress regret

Halp.

I know this belongs in attire, but I want the snarky opinions.

Please be brutally honest, especially if you think this is the wrong dress. I loved this dress when I tried it on, and ordered it, but now I am seriously doubting.

Do you think this dress is nice? I'm not fishing for compliments, but brutal honesty. I think it looks old ladyish now. I'm starting to wonder what I was thinking...

  • I love lace, and I like the dress. Personally, I think the sweetheart neckline is great too. It is really flattering, and I don't think the shape is old ladyish at all.
What don't you like about it?

  • Brutally honest?  I think it's beautiful, and it flatters your body.  I do think that changing the bust from a sweetheart is a good idea.

<div>I look at pictures of me in the sample and think I look like a cow in the hips and waist area. I think it looks like it belongs in the 70s. Maybe I am overreacting. I ordered it and it's ready in August, so maybe I fall in love with it again when I try it on in the right size, but right now all I see is blah.</div>

  • I think the sash is throwing me. The color kind of comes off as a burgendy and that seems very 90's to me. Other than that, I like it!
  • It looks quite similar to the dress of a very popular knottie - Lpstl.  She was stunning;  classy, whimsical, and elegant.

Here are some of her pics:

  • I think a pair of spanx could boost your confidence, but honestly you don't look like you need it. You've got a great figure.

  • It looks fantastic on you.  I love the idea of the bustline straight across.
  • I hate it. But I don't like most straight wedding dresses, I just don't think they are flattering. Its also very busy, with the flowered (?) pattern and then sash... I am so opposite everyone here when I say it does nothing for your figure, it kind of reminds me of a "dress" that you would put on those paper dolls? (I may be dating myself a little here). However, all that is just going off the one poorly lit small picture so take it for that :)
There is something extremely wrong with your face though!!!!
  • I like it, but I would have kept the sweetheart.
  • You sound like me 4 days ago. Heh.

I think that dress looks amazing. You look great, even with the swirly face! :)
  • I really like it. And I normally loathe (yes, loathe) sashes, but I like yours once I picture it in a lighter color. I think it's pretty!

Keep in mind it'll look very different when it's altered just for you, your have your undergarmets on, and your hair/makeup is done (I can't tell whether or not is in the pic, but that was the biggest thing throwing me when I tried mine on). I'd try it in August all pinned and see how you feel, but I like it!
  • I don't think it gives you any shape. Sorry :(

I don't like the sash either.

  • I think it's a beautiful dress, but I'm not a fan of the sash.

  • I'm not a fan of the sash, but it might be because it's so dark. Light brown might be better.

I would have also kept the neckline. I think sweetheart necklines give people more shape.

But it looks great on you. And overall, I think it's a gorgeous dress.
  • I like the dress.  And I prefer light sashes over dark, so I think it will look nicer and give you more shape once you have the light brown sash.  Dark sashes on a light dress always seem to add to the middle instead of accentuating it for some reason.

The sweetheart neckline is a little deep for my taste.  You could have the straight neckline altered into just a slight sweetheart neckline if you still feel you need more shape once you have your dress with the light sash.

    Totally elegant and beautiful!
  • I think what bothers me is the sash, like most everyone else. Aside from being too dark (which you've already taken care of) I don't think I like the way it drapes in the front, I think that would be OK if the dress didn't have the heavier color toward the bottom, it just feels like it is running into and/or overlapping it. Have you tried it without the sash or is it sewn onto the dress?

If you feel like it brings an "old lady" vibe, when you go for your first fitting bring some jewelry that might jazz it up or give a slightly more youthful feel and see how you feel about it then.
  • Step aside, old lady coming through............

Definately not an old lady dress, but I *think* I can see where you are getting that idea.  Is it all the lace?  Lace makes some people think of grannies  and doilies.  When I look at the dress I see "old fashioned" and elegant rather than "old lady."  And it does flatter your figure.
  • I'm a little partial because my dress is very similar to this, except with a straight across neckline and it's by Monique Lhuillier. I think adding a thicker sash in a champagne color would really enhance the dress.  Another point that was made when I bought my dress is that 20 years from now this dress will still be in style, which is hard to find in wedding dresses.  You look great in the dress, I think it's normal to have second thoughts.  Deep breaths ....
  • I actually like the sash. I am partial to them though.

Why don't you watch out there.  Snark does not being out right rude and nasty. Snark is sarcastic, short tempered or irritable.  Snark is sometimes mistaken for a snotty or arrogant attidude.  You need to tone it down a notch with the things you say.  Listen to yourself, and think before posting.

    I have to agree.
  • I think it looks nice.

I think the straight neckline will simplify the complexity of the lace + sash, so good choice.

Also, light brown with the lace will be gorgeous.

Durr. She wasn't being a bitch, and she wasn't out of line about the comment about OP's face - at least in my understanding. Didn't you notice the OP's face in her picture? It's swirled out for privacy, and she was just making a joke about it. SIMMER DOWN.
  • And, OP - I think your dress is great. I see, though, that maybe it's not 100% the right dress for you as it is. It seems too straight through the skirt or something and doesn't give off a nice shape. That's probably something that could be fixed with alterations and a bit of a crinoline underneath.

Before you scrap this dress, see what you can do with it. I bet with a bit of tweaking you'd end up loving it.
  • It's NMS, but I think it looks great on you. I just don't like the sash, like PP said it's too busy with all the lace.
