In Loving Memory

Us 3 years ago at the Family Reunion

My Great Grandmother just passed away this morning. She was 95. I am going to add to my programs in Loving Memory of (Nini). She was at my shower a few weeks ago and was wondering if putting her picture somewhere would be appropriate? And if so where?

Re: In Loving Memory

  • I'm sorry.

I like the locket idea around the bouquet. It's subtle, but still close to you.
  • I agree with the locket idea. I'm also really sorry for your loss.

  • Aw I'm sorry for your loss, Sarah.

I think it is nice to mention her in the program but I don't think a picture is necessary - it actually might be kind of a downer, kwim?  It's your wedding day, not an extended funeral service.

Aside from mentioning her memory in the program there are other things you can do at your wedding in her honor.  All four of Ben's grandparents are gone, and my grandpa died five months before our wedding.  We noted them in our program and that the five roses at the unity candle table were a symbol that our grandparents were still with us in spirit.  You can also do something like maybe sew a handkerchief of hers into your dress, wear a piece of her jewelry or put a locket with her picture inside on your bouquet.

I'm so sorry for your loss.  That's a great picture of you two.

I wouldn't put a picture in the program.  We had a small 'In Memoriam' section that listed my parents' names, and I had their photo on a small table at the reception.

  • I'm sorry for your loss, Sarah.

We decided to do a locket in my bouquet for my Grandfather who passed away.

  • I'm so very sorry for your loss.

I like the locket idea, the photo frame on a table with a candle, or the candle during the ceremony as well.  My cousin got married last summer and had a candle up front in the church, and the pastor mentioned (I can't remember at exactly which point, sorry) that the candle was lit for our grandfather and the groom's grandmother, and gave both of their names, mentioning that they surely were smiling down with love on this happy day.  It was touching and personal without being overwhelming.

  • Thank you all for your condolences and prayers that always helps. She was 95 and I know she was ready and I know she is in a better place. I am just thankful I got to know her.

  • My great grandma was 96 when she passed, Sarah.  It is hard even when they live long, full lives.  It is definitely special that she was in your life for as long as she was :) You will cherish those memories always.

  • I'm so sorry, sarah. <3

My bouquet was made from my grandmother's buttons. Maybe you could take a button from her favorite dress or shirt and stitch it into your bouquet or the lining of your dress.
  • I'm sorry for your loss, Sarah.  I like the locket idea, as well.
  • I bought a memory buckle online to put on my bouquet.

    Sorry for your loss.
