When could you start washing your face like normal again after LASIK? Also, when can I start rubbing my eyes again? My instructions from the doctor do not mention either. I could go for a good eye-rubbin.

It took me months before I was comfortable. Definitely wait until you've had the followup appt where the dr. tells you the flaps are completely sealed. I still try hard not to rub them, but it doesn't work very well. I usually just rub in one direction instead of back and forth.

ETA: P&R- I'll be back in about 2 hours

He hasn't told me that yet, so I guess he will when I go to my appt. in January. I guess I was naive to think that I could completely go back to normal so soon.

Can you drive at night? I had to turn around and go home the other night because the headlights were bothering me so much.

Bonus is that I got to return all of my unopened contacts to 1-800-contacts for a refund.

    ETA: Okay, I'll wait. ;-)

  • I want to so, so bad.

  • I couldn't drive at night for a couple weeks.

I didn't know about returning contacts, but I didn't buy them from there. I still have plenty in my bathroom cabinet. I asked and they said the Lions club won't take them like they take glasses.

  • 1-800-contacts lets you send them back if your prescription changes. I just called and said that it changed. They asked if I wanted to exchange them for ones with my new prescription, and I said no.

Did you have double vision? I have that problem mostly at night looking at the time on my alarm clock.

  • Yes, its the halo effect that creates the double vision. I found that I was farsighted for a while until it evened out. How long since your surgery?

  • It'll be 4 weeks tomorrow.

  • Give it a few more weeks. You should have a dr. appt pretty soon, no? I had one at 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 2 months, 6 months and a year

  • So, you stay awake for this proceedure right? I think I remember hearing that. If so, was it scary as all hell?
  • I went the Friday before last, and they had me make an appt. for January. The "checkup" was like 4 minutes tops. The Dr. had a student with him and they both looked at my eyes, and were like, you have dry eye. Your vision should get better when that clears up. But they didn't tell me how to remedy the dry eye or how long they expected it to last. I should have asked, but I didn't. I just use systane drops when I feel like I need it.

  • It wasn't scary to me, it was just really weird. At one point after they cut the flap in your cornea, they peel it back and you are completely blind. But the tell you that will happen, so its not extremely disconcerting. Then you just look at some lights and hold still for a few more seconds, they squeegee your cornea flap back on, put in some drops, and you are done. FI even got to watch the whole thing through a window and on a monitor.

  • Any, yes, you are awake because you have to look at the light. And they only gave me half a valium, which wasn't enough. I was totally aware of what was going on, and it was awful.

  • Systane is awesome. Use it more than you think you need to. Once you feel the dry eye its already too dry. That's what I did anyway.

  • That sounds effing terrifying. I'm so glad my vision is good.
