I think her eczema was bothering her.  DH had put cortisone on it for the last 2 days, and we didn't really want to put it on a third time in a row.  She was so upset that she woke herself completely up, and then it was a battle to get her back to sleep.  She started fighting sleep and crying whenever you put her down for bed a couple of weeks ago.  I thought that would be an appropriate time to start CIO, since it was obvious that she was doing it for attention, more than a need.  I started with the process of letting her cry for 5 min, walking in, checking her, talking to her, going back out for another 5 min.  It broke my heart, but DH couldn't do it.  He ran in and swooped her up and let her lay on him until she fell into a deep sleep.  Which is what we've been doing ever since.  She needs to get out of this seperation stage.
Posted by tidetravel
Yeah, I can definitely see letting her CIO at 10 months.  I know the books say that 4 months is the minimum, but Em is only 4mo adjusted and she's still teeny.

I'm hoping she grows out of this nursing to sleep thing...or at least will stay asleep from the FIRST time I put her down.

• I heard there was a cute baby a few threads down.

Damn it, I can't help myself :).
• I would never CIO at 4 months.  9 months, yes, but 4 months?  Hellz no.  Sleeping will get better.  And then it will get worse.  And then better, and then, way worse.  Hopefully, sometime after that, it will get better again.

• I know.  I'm just lucky that I can stay home with her and not worry about being overtired.

I'm making DH sound bad...he told me last night that he hates that he can't do anything for her when she wakes up since she only wants the boob.  I feel bad for him...she stopped taking bottles, so now he can't feed her.  Well, we're doing solids now, but it's different, ya know?  And with the sleep thing, she used to be able to be rocked back to sleep, but it doesn't work all the time and he hates feeling useless around her.

I had never thought about it from his perspective, and I can see how he feels left out and why it bothers him.  I just don't think she's ready to CIO.

I know!  What kind of crazy mojo do they have going on?  I just held this one today and that was it.

This is why I don't hold babies.  I am turning into the crazy aunt who will have a million pictures and show them to random strangers on the street.
• Nate- I thought  I was too late for that thread. He is very cute!

• So, this is kind of a side note, but Tide, Emerson used to have eczema pretty bad (he's finally rash free most of the time now), but I found that just moisturizing him several times a day got rid of it and kept it away better than anything else.

The Dr. had him on a bunch of different creams and even sent him to an allergy specialist, who gave him another cream. None of it seemed to work as well as the moisturizer. (I did keep using his creams though in addition to the moisturizer). I just used Aveeno Baby. HTH.

• Yea, I've been holding babies since I can remember so I don't get the fear but T sure is funny.

OMG.  I'm leaving.  These adorable babies are messing with my head!

How can anyone not love that face?  She's too cute.
• I definitely think it's different when it's your kid.  You don't have to worry about 'messing up' and having the parent judge you, lol.

• Thanks Led.  I have had chronic eczema on my hands for as long as I can remember.  We're leery about using steriods, because I was dosed up as a kid, and now, nothing but the strongest creams have any effect on my hands.

Unfortunately, the moisturizing fight is one that I've been having with DH since she was born.  He believes in using minimal product on her, so as to allow her skin to heal itself naturally.  He thinks that if we over moisturize now, that her skin will never learn to produce and balance it's natural oils on its own.  I agree with him to some extent, but when it's really bad like this (she has it on the inside of her elbows and knees) I feel like we have to do something.

I have no hope of fighting this.  I love the ears on her hat! How adorable!
• I was the biggest anti-baby person prior to having my own - DH was the baby person of the two of us.  I had refused to hold babies prior to that.  I knew nothing.  NOTHING.  Heck, I even had to have the nurse on the maternity floor show me how to change a diaper.  You learn real quick how to handle a baby when it's your own, out of sheer necessity.

Sucrets - I love her little ears!

I agree!

I babysat and stuff, but never really grew up around babies.  It's totally different when they're yours, though.

And I just realized that she's wearing hats with ears in all of her pics, including my sig.  DH loves ears.

• I'm with you on the steroids. The Dr. put Emerson on them one time when it was really bad. It completely got rid of it really quickly, but neither the Dr. nor we wanted to keep him on that.

I can understand not wanting to put too many products on her. I don't want to butt in to you and your husband's decisions, obviously, but I will just say that Emerson seems to be growing out of it and we haven't had to put anything on him in a long time (except for one time when he played in grass). So, hopefully, if you do decide to try it,  you won't have to keep doing it for a long time. Plus, I'm sure you can find some more natural moisturizers or even ask her Dr. about one.

• I like the ears!
Yesterday I was picking out a baby outfit for my friend's little girl that's due in December. For some reason, I was only liking the boy stuff! They had the cutest little things. One of them looked a lot like the outfit Nates nephew is in and I just loved it.
I'd totally put my daughter in something like that (then add a headband haha) but wasn't so sure about my friend.
I ended up just getting the sweetest little sweater and I'll embroider one of my onesies to go with.
• That's true, Tide and Sucrets.  If it's your own, you a. have no choice but to get in there and get things done and b. are less afraid of "breaking" them (I'm guessing).

I'm pretty shocked at how quickly this one kid made me excited for a baby, though.  We're nowhere near having one now, obviously, but I know FI is somewhat eager to start once we're married and settled and I was a little panicked at that.  Now, I'm excited.

Okay, now I am off to bed.  Night!
• Good night, Np! I forsee you having baby-related dreams. haha.

• Thanks for the suggestions, Zep.  I think the biggest concern that we have is that she won't grow out of it, because I have it.  Hopefully it's just baby eczema, though!

• Yah, that's true. I'll cross my fingers for you that it's just baby eczema.

Similarly, I'm really concerned about Emerson getting asthma because I have it and my brother and dad both had it, but seemed to have grown out of it.

• I'm sending 'no asthma or eczema' vibes to both of you!

P.S. Led- I love laser-eye Emerson!
