Drinking is for amateurs apparently.  If you're hardcore, you'll get drunk by way of cooch.

But you could get drunk in school!

Though where I taught last year we had 7th and 8th graders just openly drinking in class. They just mixed drinks and put it in their colored water bottles. We had to suspend 10 kids.

What is the average age for that grade level? 12 or 13?  How are these kids even getting their hands on alcohol?

Taking it from their parents or older siblings or by having older friends.  I never drank in high school but I always wondered too, lol.  But in NoDak I think beer grows on adolescent appendages.

I had a bonfire once in high school, in my yard.  My entire family was gone all weekend.  The only people that came was this guy I was half-way seeing and a few of his friends and between the handful of them they had a 30-pack of beer and a huge jug of Ron.  We were 18.

That is crazy.  When my brother was 18 (right before he went into the military) he confessed that a few months before then he poured all of the vodka that was in my Dad's cabinet into containers and filled them up with water.  That was about 7 years ago.  My Dad moved last year and was asking if he should bring those bottles to the new house in case they ever have guests (he doesn't drink anymore) and I had to tell them he was hording bottles of water.  We got a good laugh about it, but he would have gone balistic if he knew then.

  • where i came from, we could always get booze. At 14 years old, several of my friends had older siblings or friends that bought it for us, or we'd steal it from our parents. However, none of us were desperate enough to drink it in class. (or do various other things with it, geez)

But like, it's not crazy.  That is nothing.

Kids in my hometown put on a monster raving party every single year the weekend before graduation.  It's called Pig Roast.  I think when it first started happening in the days of yore, they did roast a pig, but eventually it just became a monstrous party in a random field on the rez with multiple bonfires and teenagers drunkenly stumbling everywhere like zombies from The Walking Dead.  I have no idea where they all get their booze.  But they get it.

This. I think the "craziest" thing that someone did that related to alcohol was buying those chocolates with alcohol in them and eating them before class.

I guess I just never even thought about alcohol when I was that age.  Maybe I could have gotten my hands on it, but no one my age was doing that (that I knew/associated with, anyway).  My mom did let me try red wine when I was pretty young once but I hated it.  I had about a 6 month period at 17 where I drank  because I was dating someone who was 22 and partied often. I just don't really like the feeling of being drunk.

  • The party place in my home town was "The Cinder Pit" which required 4 wheele drive to get to.  Eventually the Sherrif's Dept. got their own 4X4's and were able to bust up the parties.  A bunch of drunk teenagers trying to drive back down the side of a mountain on a one lane road and while I remember a lot of accidents, I don't think any were fatal.  I didn't drink in high school but I know older siblings, parents and just plain ol' theft were the sources for their booze.

  • Lol I have heard so many stories of kids spraining their ankles running from the cops at Pig Roast.  Those were the days.

  • There was one incident when I was still in high school.  I was in the 10th grade and some older girls were drinking.  They decided to drive somewhere and they were going the wrong way up a one way street.  They tried to pull out onto the main road and were hit by another student (there was a curve in the road so you can't see to your right if you're going the wrong way on that street).  Two of them were killed (both passengers).  It shook the whole town up for quite awhile.  The other passenger was in ICU for sometime (and it is my understanding that she was in a coma through both funerals, but they may have just waited to tell her).  The driver who was drinking was a little banged up, and she ended up serving 2 months or so in jail.  It was REALLY sad.

  • Yeah brandi, incidentally my hometown has had a lot of pretty tragic accidents by way of alcohol as well.  I mean, we sometimes joke about teens drinking but there's really nothing funny or okay about it.
