vaseline

do you have any? do you use it? what do you use it FOR?

Im just curious because I saw a commercial for it and while we have a tub, i only use it when im sick and my nose gets ultra dry or if my feet get ultra dry and I need to slather it on and wear socks to bed. I dont really know what else you can use it for (dont you dare say anal).

Re: vaseline

  • We have some.  Mostly, we use it to lubricate the thermometer when we need to take Taryn's temperature.  Come to think of it, that's probably all we SHOULD use that tub for.

  • Heh..you said anal...

We actually don't have any. I just use face lotion if I ever get a sore nose and hand lotion on hands.
  • I bought some to put on the cat's pawwhen he had hair balls. A dab for him to lick off cleared him right up...other than that I don't use it...

I use it much the same as you do.

-Winter dry feet, elbows and knees get a good slather at night
    -At night on chapped lips
    -softens cuticles
-use on skin at hairline when dying hair to prevent skin staining
-keeps a jack-o-lantern fresh longer if you rub it on the cuts
-quick fix in the absence of WD-40
-gets my wedding ring off when my stupid fingers swell
  • We don't have any. I hate how it feels. Ugh.

Uggh.  I hate lube.  It's so slimy.  ::shudder::

ETA:  I just read that back to myself in the same chipper/squeaky voice that I read Taryn's dragon book in.  "That's not MY dragon.  It's tounge is too fuzzy.  That's MY dragon.  It's wings are so scaly."  Creepy.

This is helping my baby fever.  Now when you guys show new cute pics, I will just think of rectal thermometers :P.
  • I had some.. I'm not sure if I still have it, but I used it for when the skin on my nose got chapped from blowing my nose too much when I was sick.. lol
  • Whenever I use eye drops, the skin around my eyes gets really chapped and irritated. I put Vaseline under on that skin at night and it goes away in a few days. I also use it on my semi-annual mole biopsy sites.

FI has a small jar because he has bad allergies and his nose gets dry.

I find it revolting.  Something about the way it looks.  I cant explain it.

    Posted by btrflykate1230[/QUOTE]

We've always used an ear thermometer. I don't think I've ever bought any vaseline ever.

We had it at my mom's for dry skin, I think.
  • Why the aversion ladies? The texture/look? How slimey it feels once its on? How do you feel about vicks vapour rub (same idea, but it smells).
  • Personally, I hate Vick's. The smell makes me want to puke.
  • There was always a huge tub in our medicine cabinet growing up.  Given the size of that thing my very frugal mother probably still has it.... I hate to think of what could be growing in there!  *shudder*

The only thing I've ever used it for is chapped lips.  If you rub the vaseline on your lips then take a warm wet washcloth and rub it over them they magically become beautiful and smooth again.  This is great for after skiing!

Anna - thanks for the pumpkin tip!  I'm going to try that this year now that I live in a neighborhood where a jack-o-lantern might actually stand a chance of not getting smashed by bratty kids.

  • I use it for dry skin (elbows if they are extra scratchy and nose when it's raw from blowing).  But I also use it on my lips, which I guess is dry skin too.  I use it regularly on my lips though- not only when they are chapped.  A friend in college did this and I picked up the habit I guess.  I haven't had a case of 'chapped lips' since, though :)
  • I use Aquaphor (which is really similar) on my lips, cuticles, and my eyelids (they get really dry and flaky).

Everything the light touches is my kingdom.
  • We always have a few small tubs lying around for chapped lips. I'd say T uses it several times a day for his lips and I use it almost nightly.
I've also used it for dry skin and to help remove eye makeup.

I'm okay with Vicks. My dad always hated it growing up, but my mom loved it. I'll use it when I have a super stuffy nose.

  • It works amazingly for that, I actually forgot that. I'll have to start doing it again because I hate my oily eye makeup remover so I never really remove it..
  • I have never owned or used Vaseline.

  • I have one of the little tubs that are designed to be for lips. I put it on at night before bed to keep my lips from drying out.
  • In my adult life I have only every used it to keep my skin from dying while doing my hair. For chafing, I use Body Glide, and for raw noses, or to prevent them from getting raw, I use Desitin. Yes, diaper rash ointment. That stuff is a bitch to get off your skin with a dry kleenex, so it stays on and protects it.

  • We use vaseline for the cat. I don't think we've ever used it for anything else. But it's beef flavored, so I'm pretty sure we'll stick to just giving it to Whisky.

I have no opinion on vaseline but i HATE vick's i remember having it rubbed in as a kid and then the weird burning/cold sensation when my pajamas would touch the same area. ugh.

  • We used to cover the turkey in it and throw it in the pool. Thanksgiving turkey polo.

I used it on suit hickey's too. Body glide works much better.
