Happy Sunday, Y'all!

I feel like Charles Kurault (sp?). Up early on Sunday morning with some sort of human interest.

I am  up WAY too early because my child refuses to sleep, but at least he ate all his breakfast without complaint.

So my fitbit died yesterday. It was already being ornery before it took a dip in the pool during swimming lessons, but it is really dead now. I'm pissed that I'm not going to get credit for our long walk this morning or for kickboxing this afternoon. I want recognition from my computer, dammit! Its silly, I know, but I was doing so well.

Oh well, anyone else got anything going on today?

Re: Happy Sunday, Y'all!

  • Here is your trophy for walking..

    Consider your work recognized.

Good Morning!  I'm working on homework today, getting some more crops planted in my back yard, and hopefully finishing my art project that's totally due at 1pm tomorrow.  Oops!
  • Hi Sarah and Anna!

The dogs woke me up super early. When I was in PA for the week, H would feed them at 5:30 when he'd get up for work and so now they are used to it. I'm trying to push it back as much as possible but they are still up around 6!

This might seem like a silly question but has anyone ever sanded furniture and painted it a different color? I'm thinking about going to Goodwill today to try to recycle some furniture but I don't know how big of a project it could become. Thoughts?

<div>I haven't painted it but I've stained and depending on how difficult the sanding job, it's pretty easy.</div><div>

  • I haven't refinished any furniture, but it can be a big job, depending on how many layers you are taking off and what type of paint or stain was on there the first time.

Thank you for the golden shoe, Anna. Its just what I need!

  • Hike there are a ton of blogs that have step by step easy instruction for painting furniture. A boat load of how-tos are pinned on pinterest. (I think I have a simple one pinned on my how-to board, if you click the badge in my sig). Good morning, ladies! Today is grocery shopping day. I've also got to get to the gym. H and I used up a giftcard at Coldstone last night and I'm pretty sure birthday cake remix is not considered a healthy food. Have a great day, everyone!

Thanks! I guess I can go see what they have at Goodwill and guess how hard it will be. Haha. I do have a lot of time to do this because I'm not working but I also know that my crafts always look better in my head than they actually look when finished.

Another question.... I have to get a shower gift for two different showers. I'm in both weddings so I kinda wanted to make part of the gift a little more personalized than just something off the registry.

but can't figure out if I should use the state they are getting married in (both are getting married in PA) or the state they live in (both live in VA). Thoughts?

Edit: forget the link, I don't know how to post it without f'in up the thread

  • Ugh, Shay you reminded me that I need to meal plan and shop today. We got some beets in our local basket this week so I'm going to roast them for dinner tonight and hopefully we have enough left fot my salads this week. We have some greens of some sort that I need to cook too. Other than that I have no idea.

  • That is really cute, Hike! I'd say use the state they are getting married in. It seems like this should be a memento of that day, not necessarily where they live.

  • Good morning. It's a rainy day here and we're planning on doing a whole lot of nothing today.

I am currently looking at slow cooker beef stew recipes online. I've never made it before but we have a few days of cool weather coming up and it sounds really good to me.

I may try to talk FH into going to one of our favorite places for dinner tonight. I have a bunch of makeup that I want to play with so I want an excuse to get dolled up.

  • Morning ladies!

    I'm up, SURPRISE!

Actually, Atticus did really well he HATES the crates, so he yells really loud when we shut the door. He was up at 3:30 to pee, H let him out. And than he slept till 8. I was suprised.

He had a piddle moment this morning, but he usually goes when we take him out. But he will only go on the concrete, weird dog!

The cat is NOT happy at all. Today is all day dog and maybe some laundry. The pet sitter is coming to meet him. I'm tired!

  • Morning everyone!

We spent they day with FI's family yesterday putting up the box blind for hunting.  What a PITA.  Plus I end up standing there and jus tlooking at them for a copule hours because I'm not very tool/mechanically inclined, so there's not much I can do to help.  I'd bring a book, but then I feel like I just look lazy. Blegh.

We had SOOO much fun with the puppy on Friday night and yesterday.  Ah she's so cute.  I just wish we had a place that would be big enough when she quadruples in size in the next few months.  I just feel bad having a dog that big in a place that small.  But FI agrees...dog is one of the first things on the list when we get a house.
  • kd- Glad to hear you had a good night with the pup. We had major crate issues for a while but they ended up getting better. That's so funny he'll only pee on the concrete.

I think they were in a welping box in a heated garage a lot, so he's  used to the texture. H just hoses it down.

I am worried about the crate. He is very vocal. I think he's better when we are in the room, like last night, but when we leave the room he goes on for awhile.

  • I'm sure it'll just take a few days for him to get used to it. We had to do a lot of putting Geno in for 5 minutes, letting him out, 10 minutes letting him out, etc. It took a while but he's good in the crate now. (Now that we found one he can't escape from)

  • Good morning, ladies.
Yay for puppies!  He's so cute, kd.
I get annoyed when I leave my fitbit at home, Sarah.  I want credit for the activity!  Mine is still ok after a dip in the washing machine.
I need to meal plan too.  We usually have it done by now, but yesterday was weird so we didn't.  Today will involve a bike ride and yard work.  I need to go to Home Depot and order the materials for the raised garden.

  • Sarah, do you ever get sick of planning dinners? I am so freaking sick of meal planning. Yes, it makes life during the week slightly easier but daamn it's daunting! And you reminded me, I have been looking for one of those produce delivery/family farm groups. I'm having a hard time finding one though. How did you go about it?

He should get used to the crate within a week or so.

Fred would bark and yelp, but after about a week I would say "it's time for a nippy nap" and she would just go right in.

Honesly, I think I just got really lucky with her. We got her at 8 weeks, she was house broken within two weeks and we stopped using the crate all together after about 6 weeks. Now her and the cat pretty much run the show around here.

How often did you do this? We had him in one in the car (it was a hour ride) and after about 15 minutes he went to sleep. Then after a tough day adjusting to the cat. We put him in an left the room. My god the noise! I finally left to go get dinner, H had waited till he calmed down, then another 5 minutes and then let him out. This is according to the DVD from Petsmart.

Thanks Jen! He'll be 8 weeks on Wednesday and he seems to be really smart. The only huge problem is his chewing. We just divert him with his toys.

I think he just misses his littermates.

<div>Honestly, I did it when I would remember to do it. I think the first day every hour or so for  5 minutes and built up each day. He didn't make noise like Atticus but he would try to escape and hurt himself. We also gave him treats to go in and that worked because he was really food motivated. Oh and we put his food bowl in there with the door open so he'd be able to go in to eat. </div>

Yeah, the chewing can be a problem. When Fred was a puppy I got her basket for all of her toys. If she tried to chew something that wasn't hers I would say "eh-eh" or "no" loud and firm and then take her to her basket and give her one of her toys.

Also, I realllllly want to snuggle your little guy so bad. I love his huge paws. (I have a thing for huge puppy paws)

KD, the other thing I've always heard is to get one really AWESOME treat/toy that they only get in the crate.  It gives them something to look forward to.

But, take my advice with a grain of salt. We gave up on Levi's crate training after a few weeks. Coming home to a completely busted metal crate scared the crap out of us. And Puck was already free-roam in the baement. ;)

Morning everyone! My goal for the day is to paint the nursery, but I just realized we don't have any pans to pour the paint into. So apparently I'm making a trip to Target/Home Depot/somewhere.

I do love online shopping but I have no idea what size I wear now. Haha. It's seriously better though because I couldn't find a job so I should save that money. It's funny because in the DC area, we had a target every 5-10 miles. Now, it's a super special trip to go to target because it's about a half an hour away. :-)

Edit: Just like going out to dinner tonight. We are going to chilis and it's a special trip. We only have a Ruby Tuesdays in town.

kd - for the record, puppy talk is never boring.

They haven't broken ground on the house yet. We just went on Friday night to pick our colors and finishes. I have a feeling I'm going to love my kitchen. We made some architectural changes and I think we're supposed to approve the blueprints next week, and THEN they'll start building.

Ditto Steph about putting an awesome toy in the crate. A hollow bone with a little peanut butter inside worked wonders with Fred. It took her a while to get all of the peanut butter (especially from the middle of the bone) and by the time she got it all she was ready to sleep.

Morning ladies! Doing nothing today, so that is pretty awesome. We have to schedule our home inspection for this week, so hope all goes well.

KD, have your H sleep in a t-shirt and put it in the cage with him, so he has something with his scent on it. That helped with Pumpkin, although we were bad with crating her at night because she basically slept with us from day 1. We did crate her when we weren't home though.

Chels, your pup will be OK. Sasha is 85lbs, although she was more svelte at one time, but she always lived in this apt with H. He felt bad because we didn't have the space and gave her away for a day. He was so upset and so was Sasha so the next morning he went and got her. It just went to show that she got used to a small apt.
