  • I agree planning a wedding is stressful, even planning a tiny one like mine is stressful. However, you really are coming here asking for opinions and well, some of them are bound to be put  bluntly.

One thing I know for sure, whatever you do with your wedding, someone is going to criticize it. That I think is the nature of this beast, period.

I have been told I am being rude and a awful for having a destination wedding. I have also been told we are super smart for heading to Vegas with a small group of people and skipping the whole BIG wedding we would have had here (regardless of if we liked it or not!). I have heard it is awful that I am wearing a white dress (I am 44) and I have also been told my dress is great and perfect for me.

My attitude is, I pull up my big girl panties and say great, you have a right to your opinion, I have a right to my wedding, our way. *Mostly*, I am not seeing opinions on the Knot, just others ideas, suggestions, whatever. I like to comment here, too.
This is NOT the place to come for validation. There are a lot of women here with strong ideas, many with big budgets (it seems to me) and I think also a lot of traditional thinking on weddings (or very chic and creative, kind of the two extremes). The Knot is what it is, if you don;t like it seeks opinions elsewhere.
  • Ugh, snarky does not mean whiny pissy and moany.  I'm going to need to get a flashing neon sign that says so.

I'm also giggling at Lenore's assumption we all had big budgets.  Not that you can see my wedding since my bio has been eaten.  I think the only one with a big budget is blueyed.

Lol, seriously guys its not that big.  Im not having some platinum wedding type of thing.  Im at an average priced venue, with an average priced dress, and average entertainment.  I just have alot of people coming and not much choice in the matter since we both have <em><strong>huge</strong></em> families. I literally have about 15-20 friends on my list outside of my bridal party.  Also, my parents are paying for half.  Im not complaining about it, since im lucky to have the help from my family, but im afraid the wedding is nothing spectacular.   More than half of the budget is going to be spent on food and drink alone (more like 60-70%) .

</div><div>Definitely, not everyone here has a big budget. I saw one post where they need to pull out a wedding for $1,500.00. Compared to that, we have a big budget. Since Vegas is actually a cheaper destination wedding than many, even with paying for people there and for the party afterwards at home, our budget is shaping up to around 14K. The party here will have stuff like a cupcake tower cake and homemade food, with very modest flowers. The venue is my mom's condo community room (a super nice one, The nicest I have seen). </div><div>When we started all of this, I thought we were going to spend maybe 8K. I also thought we could do it at home and invite maybe forty guests (oh, how innocent I was!!). If we had stayed here, and invited the 150 people the guest list was turning into we would have spend at least 25K. I have heard tell the average wedding now is 30,000.000.</div><div>Thirty thousand! In the 1980's, people thought you were going completely over the top if you spent half that on 300 guests, and inflation has not been that bad in other stuff since then. It is like these vendors and venues hear "wedding" and go gonzo crazy on prices.</div><div>
