Things I hate about the knot...

Hi ladies,
I'm a newbie here, just joined recently...but was wondering if you all have the same peeves about this site that I do? I joined the knot thinking that it was THE WEBSITE for brides, imagining I would have a plethara of tools and links to ideas that would help me plan my wedding...but what I found was just a lot of clutter and stupid features that don't work or are pointless. Am I alone in saying this? Also...I may or may not have just sent a very SNARKY letter (that will probably never be read) to feedback@theknot.com. I'll post it if you want to read it.

But seriously, can't these people do better? There are so many stupid things about this website. Are the message boards the only good thing about the knot?

Shh, don't say the s(nark) word.

No one really finds TK lists very helpful.  Mostly nagging or unnecessary.  But stick around, the girls who post on the message boards are fun

I hate the new bios/look books. They are so limiting.

And I hate that you can't see if people are online lurking anymore. I miss that bubble!

I found some of the tools useful and a couple of articles. Mostly the checklists and the budgeting too for the basics. But I do most stuff on my own. To me, the boards are the best thing about it. You can get a variety or answers or suggestions quickly.

My biggest gripe is the knot tv video up at the top.

Yes they are.  The tools tend to not work, or malfunction just when you need them, the advice given on the main pages about weddings are purely put there to increase the knot's revenue, being that they are a huge part of the wedding industry.  Really the boards are the only things worth looking at.

oh yeah. that way you would know who was here even if they didn't want to talk. This is devolve into fights of, "I just left the screen open - I wasn't there!!!"

I found a lot of my help to be with the girls in my local boards. They are brides/marrieds who have been through it. So that was very helpful.

And I also used the local vendors tools, it helped because I planned a DW. But I used Google a lot, and I used wedding channels list for marking what I had done, and what needed to be done. It was easier to work.

But you can always hang out with us.

Remember that TK is a site to sell products and services.  The boards are useful, but are also a community of people who have been around for a while and stay here for social reasons outside of wedding planning, so you may feel like it's not very wedding-related when that's what you're looking for.  Lurk for a while, and ask a WR (wedding-related) question if you want to - the ladies here are very helpful and will provide great advice when asked.

Right click on the "Snarky Brides" link at the top of your screen in green.  Select "Open in new tab".  Close the first tab.  Your new tab will not have any TV.

I like the budgeter on wedding wire.  I like the photo galleries here, but I wish the search options were better so I wouldn't have to sort through 2000 photos when I'm looking for a specific kind of thing.

I hated my knot website, and the guest list manager is practically worthless. 

The boards here are the best part.

Sounds like the site used to have better forum software since all the good ones show who's online, unless that person has selected to be invisible.  They also let you do things like embed video, tell you when you have private messages, many other things this one doesn't lol.

Delete everything up to and including the = in the url.  Knot TV magically disappears.

I hate the TV as well. Also I hate that I can't knot from home because for ssome reason my computer doesn't update on a regular basis (all post are like 1 day behind) not a knot problem but frustrating as hell on the weekends!

Yeah, I just hate how you can't customize anything. Why can't I have favorite boards and not have to look at links to My Local Board or DIY Board if I know I will never use them? Why can't I customize my profile to my liking and get rid of the things I don't want (like the Look Book)? Why can't I have more than 2 colors for my wedding colors? And why are the color selections so limited?

Maybe I'm just too picky. But it would be nice to have some sort of creative authority when it comes to what I want to look at.

Hi, OP, by the way.  The guest list manager worked really well for me...for awhile.  Now everything is in my trust google spreadsheet.

I love that the girls will totally put you in your place if your being a Bridezilla, I know people get mad at being flamed but seriously it helped me put things back in perspective (just wanted to give the hate a break for a second)

I would LOVE to be able to customize which boards I want to view. Instead of keeping 87239 tabs open it would be awesome to just have a one click list of my top favs on the left hand side.

Also, I HATE the purple the knot lets you have. It was so not the purple I did for my wedding, ugh!

I wish they realized that because their features suck so bad, people go elsewhere.  They are missing out on their market.

i live in england so all the stuff is actually rather pointless (eg vendors near you as hey-they are no where near me) but the boards are really great even though i just lurk but hey-ho, no bubble to prove it! the checklists are ok but i just read Sterling instead of USD to use use it.

Photos and the boards are the only things I have liked at TK. There ARE a ton of photos on the site, way more then any other I have come across and those can be great for ideas. Also, I agree with the PP who said that the women on the various boards are a good source for WR information. You will see (if you have not already) a lot of talk out there on sites like Weddingbee that everyone on TK is just a nasty beotch, and there are some of those for sure BUT there is also some good, straight up information and opinions available on the boards.

I agree though, for the most part TK is not a user friendly site and is cluttered with a lot of junk. It reminds me of some freakish 1980's MTV ad, only for weddings (you old faloks may know what I mean!).

Les--OMG Thank you!  TV IS GONE!!!  And i have all the boards!   That was wondeful.

I don't like that the vendors are paid for, and not real recommendations.  It's nice that the boards exist so you can get a better idea of a vendor from your local crew.

Are you sure you're signed in on your home computer? I had this happen too, then realized that I wasn't signed in, so all of the posts were a day old, rather than being the newest.

I use the guest list manager, but I do find the actual planning tools to be horrible. Like looking through all the pictures can take DAYS, because they aren't categorized in a useful way.

And why did they take away the ability to add friends? From what I understand, they took it away because now you can DM anyone, right? Well, why didn't they just delete everyone's friend lists when they did that? Now the newbies join and can't add friends, but people who were able to do so from way back still have friends!
