Pottermore

I get the impression (largely based on facebook, shhhhhhhh) that a lot of people have been playing around with pottermore. I always vowed I wouldnt but once I saw everyone else doing it I decided to do it and just not play around with it much, then I sat and played with it for nearly 2 hours. Im FORCING myself to stop.

Anyways, if you have signed up for it, what house did you get sorted to? I got Ravenclaw. I dont know why but I think that is a kick ass house for me lol.

Re: Pottermore

  • Yeah, I totally got sucked in too.

For some reason, I got sorted into Slytherin.
  • I signed up just now and I want to play around with it. I have to go to work in a bit though so I can't until I get home. Boo work

I would never have guessed that for you lol
  • I signed up, but I'm still in Diagon Alley. I assume the sorting happens once you get to Hogwarts, yes? I can't wait to see where I end up. I'm kind of afraid it's going to be Hufflepuff.

Lol its weird that I thought the same thing and I don't know why I had such negative thoughts about being hufflepuff, I just did. What is your wand? Mine has a dragon core.

Mine is unicorn hair, which was not surprising in the least, lol. I think I want to play it right now so I can get to the sorting phase.

  • Whoa, I just learned that Hogwarts is in Scotland, NOT Britain. Mind = blown.

I'm in Ravenclaw too, Nebb :) My wand is cedar with a Phoenix feather core, 12 1/3 inches, reasonably supple.

  • They put me in Slytherin... what the heck, haha.

  • Buhhhhhh I want to play on Pottermore! I'm pretty sure my phone can't handle it, and I'm positive it's blocked at work. Only a couple hours until I can go home and play, I guess.

I really want to be sorted into Ravenclaw.

Is the material your wand's made of supposed to say something about you?

  • Gretchen, you do take a little quiz to get your wand, so I guess it is. I forget what the questions were. The questions for the sorting were a little obscure in some cases, so I don't think I'd really be in Slytherin because I chose stars over moon, etc.

  • Hmm. That should be interesting.

I'm glad the questions aren't quite so obvious. I remember when the movies first came out, WB had a sorting hat quiz on the website, but the questions were semi-obviously related to certain houses. So if, say, you REALLY didn't want to be in Slytherin, you could reasonably figure out which ones related to Slytherin and just avoid those.

I think that one sorted me into Hufflepuff with no meddling from me.

I can't get the strength of my spells above 25 when I practice and I keep fucking up that damn boil potion. Lol worst wizard EVER!
  • I'm in Hufflepuff and it upset me. I tried to answer honestly but there were some questions I really didn't have an answer for. I also finished book 1 and it won't let me go farther.

I'm playing! I just got my wand. :)

ELM WITH PHOENIX FEATHER CORE, TEN AND THREE QUARTER INCHES, UNYIELDING
  • About Phoenix cores:

This is the rarest core type. Phoenix feathers are capable of the greatest range of magic, though they may take longer than either unicorn or dragon cores to reveal this. They show the most initiative, sometimes acting of their own accord, a quality that many witches and wizards dislike.

Phoenix feather wands are always the pickiest when it comes to potential owners, for the creature from which they are taken is one of the most independent and detached in the world. These wands are the hardest to tame and to personalise, and their allegiance is usually hard won.

Now that im back on my computer, my wand is a sycamore with a dragon core, 12 and 3/4 inches and slightly springy. I wish I had noted everything it meant, I forget now.

    I did some googling:
Sycamore Wands: The sycamore makes a questing wand, eager for new experience and losing brilliance if engaged in mundane activities. It is a quirk of these handsome wands that they may combust if allowed to become ‘bored,’ and many witches and wizards, settling down into middle age, are disconcerted to find their trusty wand bursting into flame in their hand as they ask it, one more time, to fetch their slippers. As may be deduced, the sycamore’s ideal owner is curious, vital and adventurous, and when paired with such an owner, it demonstrates a capacity to learn and adapt that earns it a rightful place among the world’s most highly-prized wand woods.
Dragon Core: A creature of legend, the dragon symbolizes wisdom and longevity. The dragon is fierce and strong, and would make a ferocious enemy or marvelous friend. The heartstring of a dragon would be a wise choice for one who wishes to cast extraordinary hexes or defensive spells. Would also make an excellent companion to woods that feed off the element of fire.
  • Nebb, I remember it said the bigger the wand, the bigger the wizard personality.

And the 'give' of the wand indicates the wand holder's ability to change/adapt?
  • Oh, snap. Nebb's wand sounds seriously awesome.

I'm playing. I was sorted in to Gryffyndor. Which is cool, but I would have liked to see what the other houses are like.

It took me about 10 trys to get the boil potion down. I couldn't find my wand to click for the longest time and I kept running out of time.

My wand is 12 & 3/4 inch Acacia and Phoenix Feather which seems to be pretty sweet.

    Phoenix

This is the rarest core type. Phoenix feathers are capable of the greatest range of magic, though they may take longer than either unicorn or dragon cores to reveal this. They show the most initiative, sometimes acting of their own accord, a quality that many witches and wizards dislike.

Phoenix feather wands are always the pickiest when it comes to potential owners, for the creature from which they are taken is one of the most independent and detached in the world. These wands are the hardest to tame and to personalise, and their allegiance is usually hard won.

    Acacia

A very unusual wand wood, which I have found creates tricky wands that often refuse to produce magic for any but their owner, and also withhold their best effects from all but those most gifted. This sensitivity renders them difficult to place, and I keep only a small stock for those witches or wizards of sufficient subtlety, for acacia is not suited to what is commonly known as 'bangs-and-smells' magic. When well-matched, an acacia wand matches any for power, though it is often underrated due to the peculiarity of its temperament.

Angel it says Hogwarts is located several hours north of London. Still in Britain. McGonagal is from Scotland.
