Snarky Brides

Wedding with a Corpse Flower

First of all, hello.  I've been lurking here and there and enjoy the humor/honesty on this board.

Thought you might all get a kick out of this story:

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/7120975.html

"As Jessica Zabala was planning her dream wedding a year ago, she envisioned the sweet scent of tropical flowers wafting through the air with butterflies — not the stench of rotting flesh.

Yet now the young bride-to-be from Katy worries that her wedding set for Saturday evening in Houston's Cockrell Butterfly Center may smell more like a funeral.

That's because Zabala in her white gown will be competing for attention with another female - Lois, a rare corpse flower, who's been slowly revealing her burgundy attire to thousands of spectators daily. Unfortunately, the 5-foot bloom also emits a cadaver scent designed to attract carcass-eating beetles in its rain forest home in Sumatra."

At least the couple has a really good attitude about it!

  • Yeah, I don't know that this would ever be on a list of things that could go wrong, so it's cool that they are making it work to their advantage.

And yes, everyone will remember their wedding.

  • How often do you run into the problem of smelling rotting flesh at your wedding?  It's definitely unique.  I am glad they seem to be making the best of it--and it will be a good story down the road.
  • That's kind of awesome. At least they'll have something to remember!

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • My wedding smelled like death too, but mainly because I think Matt shiit his pants just before the ceremony.
