Bloody Mary!

 Hey y'all!

Anybody have a favorite bloody mary recipe? I am also looking for favorite bm garnishes and salt blends for the rim.

I am making it my mission this Thanksgiving to make my mom and family members the best bloody mary they have ever had.

I have Mr. and Mrs. T mix that I am looking to doctor up, but, I wouldn't be opposed to making them from scratch either.

Re: Bloody Mary!

  • We use Mr. and Mrs. T mix, the spicy kind, and FI adds celery, worstershire (sp??) and A1 and they are fabulous.

  • Horseradish and worcestershire sauce for sure!  Celery salt, pepper vodka, a smidge of beef boullion (sp).  You can rim it with a mix of salt (or celery salt)  and mequite rub (if you want a more smokey flavor) or salt, black pepper, a little cayenne or red flakes if you like spicy.  I garnish with celery stalks and/or shrimp depending on if it is truly morning- 11am or afternoon 1/2pm and later.  I don't use a mix, but Mr and Mrs T's is ok.

  • I really like the shrimp idea. I really want to do celery and onions. And, I am liking the idea of the pickle spear. I will probably end up doing a different garnish on each one!

  • Zing zang is the best bm mix n my opinion. And I like to have lemon and limes for garnish. Also using old bay seasoning for the salted rim is good. Have fun!
  • Thanks, y'all! I am starting to think I need Zing Zang. That is being mentioned a lot. Also, I am liking the fixings and garnish bar idea.

  • my favorite place uses a splash of Guiness in theirs, and garnishes with summer sausage, mozz cheese strings (long, curvey, thin string cheese), a thick round pickle slice, and a garlic mushroom. Yum!
When I make them at home I use the mix suggested above from the store, and add garlic salt, pepper, a dot of Sriracha hot sauce, and garnish with the yummy stuff I mentioned here.
    Praying for a miracle!

I am usually just a lurker on this board, but I had to pass this on!

The best blood mary I have ever had was made with BACON vodka. Yes, you heard me right. Bacon. I am not quite sure why, but it worked.  Zing Zang is by far my favorite BM mix and I like mine with worcestershire and a bit of tabasco sauce and a salt/cayanne rim. Personally, I think the best garnishes come in the simplest for - a plain ol' celery stalk, a slice of lime and/or green olives.

I always make mine from scratch.  I have not found a mix that I like.  I add a lot of ingredients but here they are: vegetable juice, lemon juice, A1 or BBQ sauce, celery salt, seasoned salt, pepper, horseradish, worcheshire, hot sauce, a little pickle juice, a little banana pepper juice, garlic powder, and onion powder.  If I happen to have green olives on hand I add a little of the juice from that jar, too.  I use any combination of celery, pickle, banana pepper, and olives to garnish.  When I'm making them for a lot of people I just make a couple pitchers without vodka and let everyone add their own so it's as strong (or not) as they like it.  I like the idea of shrimp as a garnish, and I think any kind of cured meat and cheese cubes would be good as well.  I suggest you set the garnishes out and let everyone pick and choose what they want in it.

  • Ugghh, now I am really, really in the mood for a Bloody Mary.  They all sound fabulous!
