wax in deep votive holders?

k, ladies, very important post-wedding question...

we had these really tall (fine, not that tall) glass candle holders and we had floating candles in them. Of course now there is melted wax in the bottom and I can't get it out with a knife (like I can the smaller holders where the left over wax just pops out when I give it a nudge...

I can't dump them in a microwave because they have a piece of metal on the bottom of the candle (can you put metal that is covered in wax in the microwave? I don't really want to test this)...

DH says dump them (sigh), I want a solution...

any ideas?

(ps: missing gift located, talked to guest, we have indeed misplaced a card but the gift is at the store. phew)

Re: wax in deep votive holders?

  • Maybe submerge the bottoms in water hot enough to make the wax pliable?

  • Freeze it then pry out with a knife.
  • Yup - freeze it.  I hear it really works.

Put them in the freezer, upside down.It will usually just pop out.

This worked for me when I sold Partylight.

  • Yeah I was supposed to research flooring online, which obviously meant do a knottie poll :)
  • next question...

do we have to have a joint account to cash the cheques made out to both of us (sigh...)?
  • That I'm not sure about. You might be able to cash it into one account as long as both of you sign and are present at the deposit. I know we had a lot of trouble cashing our checks before we got the joint account. I also had a ton of trouble cashing things as Kristi newlastname too.
  • Have the other person endorse the check as payable to you, then you can deposit it. If you deposit it at an ATM, they won't even check.

  • About the check thing- I just had to sign the checks that were made out to both of us. Since several of them were Mr. & Mrs. H's first last names, his bank let him deposit them, so long as I had signed.
  • I just signed them over to DH.

  • seriously? They won't check? Wow...well they are all in his last name so I figure we can go to his bank and if we are both there it would work...
  • Fwiw I think my bank just is a pita. My mom accidently wrote me a check for Kristi maidenname a few months ago and they refused to deposit it into my account, even though the account had been under that name for 4 years and their records showed that.
  • Ah...I see what you ladies mean...none of them are made out just to me with my new name...they are all his and me with his last name (except for one that is just to him)...I figure we should be fine...thanks again!
  • The worst was we actually had a check written out to Scott and Kristi billastname. Bank refused to allow any of us to cash it (rightfully) because none of the names were correct. We gave it back to sil to return to her friends and they would write a new check with the correct names (they told us to do this) and we never saw it again.
  • H's bank allowed him to cash the checks so long as I signed them as well. The hard part was people writing checks to me with H's last name, and I haven't changed my name. I just put one in the ATM and we'll see if they send it through.
  • For our checks, we both had to endorse them.  We also brought in a copy of our marriage certificate for them to have on file for the future.  (I kept my name, and it has made life easier.)

  • I ended up signing my maiden and new last name that the check was written out to, my credit union cashed them fairly well.  DH had to also sign with ones written out to us both.  The teller said she gets those questions all the time, because each bank is different.

    Congrats btw!
  • I had to sign them all twice - the way the check was written out, and then again with my maiden name since I haven't changed my name yet, or gotten it changed on the account.  We just went into our credit union with all of the checks unsigned, and told the lady we'd just gotten married and how should we sign all the checks and she told us and we did it and no problems.
