Snarky Brides

I am so frustrated I could kick a kitten.

UGH. I need to vent (who doesn't). My wedding is three weeks away and while I have been on top of everything and am in good shape.. everyone else is making me CRAZY.

- first- one of my bridesmaids (my cousin no less) ignored the repeated texts and emails ALL YEAR about booking a hotel room in time and now has no place to stay. She wanted to stay with me and my MOH, but there isn't room. Why this is my problem.. I do not know. I really did my best to help them all find places to stay.

- second- one of the groomsmen's crazy gf's (i wont even bother listing the crazy incidents, just trust me) recently developed a nut allergy. Accordingly, I told her I was happy to tell the venue in case there is an issue, however, she should be aware of what she eats. Our salad has walnuts. They are huge and easy to see. I told her I will ask them to serve hers without and I will note it on the back of her escort card. HOWEVER- I reminded her to LOOK when she eats. Her response? "could you remind me the day of. I may forget and eat them anyways and go into shock." Yea... see.. I'll be busy getting married and you are an adult with an allergy. CMON.

- third- apparently in addition to getting myself ready... my aunt wants me to ensure my grandmother gets to a hair salon and back in time to get ready.. because the numerous other family members who will be there cannot do that. They will be busy getting ready and clearly the bride will be sitting with her thumb up her ass all day.

Ok.. I am done.

PS- no kittens were hurt in the writing of this post. :-P

Re: I am so frustrated I could kick a kitten.

  • 1. Sucks to be your cousin. Tell her to shack up with her parents or something. Seriously, not your problem she sucks at being organized.

    2. I highly doubt she is that deathly allergic to walnuts that fast, and if she is, so be it - if she's an adult and can't manage to deal its her problem. My 5 year old cousin who is severely allergic to nuts KNOWS to check what he is eating! Sigh, she is being a baby!

    3. I am sure Grandma will be taken care of, delegate it to a bridesmaid or an uncle who has nothing better to do perhaps?

  • Don't you love how weddings bring out the crazy?

  • A grown woman can't be bothered to look for nuts when she's told they will be in a salad? Methinks she might be exagerating the allergy just a bit. Or she's just an AW and wants to cause a scene.

As for the BM, that's her problem. I say let her deal with the travel arrangements and don't even worry about it. It's her fault and shouldn't be your problem.

And why can't someone else take your grandmother to the hair salon, like your mom or aunt? Did they give a valid reason or just ask? I'd flat-out tell them you won't have time so they need to figure it out themselves.
  • I laughed at nut allergy. I don't know why. I think it's because I'm a 13 year old boy.

I am pretty confident in saying that your vent is justified.

Your cousin is a moron.  I mean I'm sure you love her and she is great - but her not having somewhere to say is NOT your problem, especially since you've been reminding her constantly.  Tell the dumb slore she needs to suck up to someone else for a couch to sleep on.  You have enough to worry about.

The chick with the nut allergy - while I think you've done everything you can to accomodate her, I dunno, she sounds like a pretty spacey person.  I'm fairly sure that if I was deathly allergic to something I'd inspect something rather thoroughly before eating it.

As for your grandma - ask your aunt if it's going to take her longer to get ready than it will take you?  Does she need to have her hair and/or makeup professionally done?  Does she have to get herself tied into a dress with a huge train?  Does she had to pose for hundreds of photos?  ...I'm assuming that the answer to these questions is no.  Take that supposed thumb out of your ass (ha!) and tell your aunt to take a hike and figure out what to do with grandma herself.  Again - you have enough to worry about!  You have to watch your groomsman's gf so she doesn't eat any walnuts for shiit's sake!

Hope it feels better after tying it all out - seems like lots of people are venting today!

  • I've asked my aunt to take care of my grandmother. I adore my grandmother but I seriously cannot be in charge of her on my wedding day. Not to mention she's perfectly capable of taking care of herself.. she just needs a ride.

As for the walnut girl- I mean yea.. I'll admit it... I am not this girl's biggest fan in life as is. I don't really even believe this allergy thing. She waitresses at two upscale restaurants that I know for a fact more often than not use nuts in their food. She's just crazy and like attention. The groomsmen/crazy's bf was also texting me last night to remind me.. since I would have forgotten between saturday and sunday. insanity.

  • ahh.. i just have to say I adore you ladies. I was annoyed and now I am laughing.

I texted my aunt asking if she'd handle my grandmother... cause "allaboutthebenjamins" is right- how can I possibly take her to the salon when I am personally removing walnut's from Crazy's salad.

    lol.

  • Ok-now that I know no kittens were harmed.

Have your cousin stay with Grandma, and take care of her all day. Sounds to me like she did this on purpose so as not to have to pay for a room IMO.

Yeah my ex's new wife couldn't take his dog, so I had to keep her cause she was allergic, yet she had 3 other dogs. Ok whatever. Just make sure her boyfriend has an eppy pen.

Good luck, and I know things will be fine. It's a high stress time for everyone, but really you shouldn't be bothered with all this crap. Just let it fall to the side, and I promise it will work out.

Sorry, Starmusica, I giggled a few times at your post.  On all three counts...really people?  Get it together, you can do it, you're all adults.  FFS!

You should ask the BM with the nut allergy if she wants you to cut her meat up into bite size pieces for her too so she doesn't choke.

edit- I meant GMs girlfriend.  Reading comprehension fail.

  • OMG, I'm laughing at work.  People are staring.
  • Oh god this is miserable.
You simply have to stop being the responsibile and reliable on in your family. Then they won't except you to take care of all their shiit ;)
  • A drink?  May I suggest a whiskey sour - or long island tea?  TOP SHELF!

  • O....M...G....you poor thing.  I think it is time to turn off the phone for a bit.  People are crazy!

  • I agree with Meaghan, stop being so damn reliable and responsible and problem solved :)

For the walnuts - While I want to joke about her being a completely moron, you still don't want her going into shock on your wedding day for being a moron. Could you maybe have the caterers/servers make a sign or point out what has nuts for her? That way you don't have to worry about it day of but someone reminds her.
And yeah, I'm thinking she's pulling the "I don't like this food so I'll say I'm allergic instead" line. My friend is allergic to everything under the sun and has no problem asking cooks or caterers for exact ingredients before eating anything.
  • o a long island iced tea sounds amazing. Unfortunately- to top off my day.. I am sitting on a delayed train home. and we have a dance lesson tonight. lol. I am basically just laughing at all the insanity and my fellow passengers think I'm nuts.

Katie- ya I am totally worried she will actually eat a damn nut and drop to the floor. ALTHOUGH- this is the same girl who a few months ago.. got annoyed no one was talking to her at a bar and poured her drink on the floor so we'd pay attention to her. Seriously.. shes like 5. I associate with her as little as possible.

  • I suggest a large sign on the groomsman that reads:

    NO NUTS

    <---

with a little discreet arrow beneath it, pointint to allergy girl.
    Two birds, one stone.

I agree- cousin should stay w/ Grandma and take her to get her hair did.
    Again, two birds...

Sorry- this post is cracking me up, but at least you can laugh about it!!

Posts like this make me always re-think having a larger wedding...  damn crazy people.  Eloping is looking pretty good....
  • star, i think you should crush up the nuts into a fine powder and sprinkle it on her salad to see if she is really allergic or not...

if she is then she will have to go to the ER and she will no longer harass you on your day lol. and if she is not then no harm no foul.

  • Could nut alergy possibly host stupid cousin and together get grandma to the salon (or maybe a saloon would be better).

Seriously about the nut alergy. Our work cafeteria has frozen yogurt and listed black walnut on online menu. co-worker with severe nut alergy noticed sign on machine said cherry or some other non-nut flavor. co-worker asks cafe staff if a) sign was wrong, b)online menu was wrong. Staff says neither, ran out of black walnut. Co-worker asks if they a) tore down and cleaned machine before adding new flavor or b) just dumped the new flavor in on top of black-walnut.  Staff ASSURES her they tore it down, thoroughly cleaned it and then started new flavor. NOTE she told them of severe alergy). Having been assured, she buys some of the new yogurt. Eats a about 2-3 bites - has seizure. Ends up in hospital for 5 months. Sues my work place and our cafe company for a heck of a lot of money -lets say she no longer needs to work.   So yes, nut allergies can be very serious but if it's that serious she can look for her own darn nuts.
  • skippy- no you are right.. which is why i am mildly concerned. However.. it's interesting to me that this came up now. She really hates not having attention. This revelation about walnuts came in the middle of a conversation she wasn't involved in.. and apparently 5 minutes after her boyfriend MADE her come talk to me and my MOH. Apparently she thinks we hate her and didn't want to. Then she comes over by barreling in with "OMG YOU NEED TO FLAG MY FOOD." I think maybe she may have an allergy but shes so nuts. We don't hate her. We are just adults and feel like we shouldn't give her attention when she acts insane.

o wells. in 3 weeks this insanity will be over!
