Dude, they do not care.  You guys leave, new people come in.  Besides, they'd rather have people that are not married yet; they're trying to sell wedding stuff here.

actually this is not entirely correct. They get a LOT of money from hits to these boards. Hits sell ads. If everyone leaves, hits go away and ads eventually lessen.

You could if you stopped trying to police what people say.

Really, Lili.  I'm not trying to start a fight.  I was a moderator a few months ago on E.  But adults are going to swear.  It's not a big deal.  Deleting people's posts only made them leave, it didn't make the boards any better.  And what people say is true.  The boards are going to slow down to a crawl without the hits that having two very active boards provided.

I'm not telling you how to run your company.  I know that this will (probably) largely go unread.  But I am sad to see a community that I've been a part of for four years disintegrate over a sudden outbreak of censoring for no apparent reason.  These boards functioned just fine for years without Big Brother deleting threads that had swears in them.  That's all.

I'm not up in arms over the normal swears (even though I abhor censorship) as I am the fake swears.  These are made up words!  And people will still find some of the regular posters offensive with or without swear words.   I don't see how banning s/h/i/t with 3 i's is going to help.

   I am not deleting anyone's posts. But people are reporting posts that violate TOS and they are automatically deleted. We are not policing everything you say, just enforcing our TOS.

And we do read and take into consideration all of your comments.

Lili- why now though? You guys have never done this before. THIS is what is angering people. The sudden love for your own TOS. A better explanation may help people understand.

I understand the concept of "posts that are so offensive to people will be deleted if enough people are offended and report it."  Sounds like a good enough idea, but 3???  Three posts is all that is required to have a post auto delete?  Heck, I have 3 computers, with different IP addresses in my immediate office.  I could go through an auto delete posts if I wanted to.  And, as we found out over at WP, enough auto deletes = auto ban.

How many views does an average thread get?  We can't tell on this forum, but most actual "conversation" posts on TB are what?  300-500 views.  The really big/controversial ones can be over 1500.  So, assuming a page view of 300, you're deleting comments if 0.01% of the population finds them offensive.  That's ridiculous.  At least consider upping the number to 10 or 20 reports before anything is deleted.  At that point, trust me, the TRULY horrific, offensive posts WILL be reported, by lurkers and regs alike.  (Like that time a troll told me to have a miscarriage.)

Yesssss, and they'll get those hits from NEW posters.  Message boards are largely cyclical- especially something like a wedding message board.  They recognize that the majority of posters to the Knot will leave at some point.  MOST people don't want to keep posting on a wedding board long after their wedding.  So, you all leave- big deal, new blood will eventually repopulate these boards.

Lest you forget, there were others on this board before the current "SB'ers."

Your threats are not going to change a thing around here.  Lili is humouring you and answering your questions because it's her job.

AHHH she is! She snuck in there without me noticing!

We are starting to do a better job of enforcing TOS for a variety of reasons. 1. We have been getting a lot of complaints that we are not. 2. I started relatively recently, and before I arrived there was a lot of turnover. I am now here to stay and am slowly examining and relooking at everything I am responsible for. Enforcing TOS is one of those things.
