Snarky Brides

Thursday Morning

Morning all,

I didn't realize I initially clicked on the "students" board and was all confused when I didn't recognize any usernames.

I went out last night and ended up going to a bar that was doing a premier for a new brewing company's beer.  It was delish, and also 8.5% alcohol which we found after after the fact.  I'm sinusy today and nothing is helping relieve the pressure.  Also, I'm having job woes but I will not bore everyone with that, but basically we can't afford to buy reagents.  If you can't afford reagents, you can't do experiments... so...that kind of leaves me in a crappy position.

  • Are we the only people up?

Job woes, boo. :( I alwasy think that when that stuff happens, it's a blessing in disguise. Like maybe the most awesome job ever will be waiting for you around the corner!

It's my Friday, woop! I'm wearing a bright blue pencil skirt and I'm having a good hair day so hopeuflly that means good things for me today. Hoping to get in bed early tonight and go on a 4-5 mile jog tomorrow, it's been awhile!

  • Morning. I'm kinda pissy today. Way back in March, my H & I registered for the WDW Wine & Dine half marathon, and he texted me last night to tell me he probably can't go because of work. When we registered for the race, he told me that his new unit would be cool with him taking vacation time, so long as he puts in early for it so that they know to find someone to fill in just in case some work comes up. So, I put a deposit in on a suite at the Disney All-Star Music resort (non-refundable) for five nights so we can actually enjoy WDW together after the race (H has never been to WDW). Basically, I'll be running this race and staying in a family-sized suite all by myself. Wonderful.

I tossed and turned all night because I was so irritated by this news.

Morning all.  I've got nothing to really add to the morning thread, except that I just bought a new phone cover (this one) and I'm ridiculously excited about it.

    Have a great day, ladies!

    Good morning!

Sounds like the makings of an SB GTG, Mehg.

So.  DH completely forgot our anniversary yesterday.  As in, 'why are you giving me a card on a random Wednesday - what's going on?' forgot.  I'm not gonna lie - I'm hurt.  He knows I already feel like less than nothing; this certainly doesn't help.  I don't want a gift, but it is not too much to expect for him to remember the damn date.

The race is Nov 10th. While I love vacationing by myself (I love my own company), this was supposed to be special since I've gone to WDW three times without him in the past year and a half. Plus, we never got a honeymoon, either.

He's out of town till tomorrow night, so I texted one of my friends and we're having a girl date tonight. We're going to dinner at an Italian place, then we're going to go see Magic Mike.

  • That's crazy you can't afford reagents. Do you work off grants?

We had an amazing dinner last night but we were sitting next to an incredibly annoying couple. He looked miserable and she kept reaching over to pinch his cheeks. At the end she was whining that she couldn't sit next to him. Our tables were practically touching and if she sat next to him she'd have been in FH's lap. At least it was free entertainment.

I am headed to the gym after work and then we get free delicious Italian food for a work dinner. I'm excited. I'm glad the weekend is almost here.

I'm fleshing out the to do lists for the next 2 months and having a minor panic attack. =)

<div>Yup, we did.  It's not like it's our own lab either.  We are using their money and their supplies both of which they don't have a lot of.  Also, I'm on the bottom of the totem pole so to speak so I can forsee me being the first one to go if things get really bad, if you don't consider this already really bad.  I'm also the only one doing the research for this particular aspect so if I go, the whole thing is most likely a wash.</div>
  • Hey, if any SB ladies wanna join me for a GTG, I've got the room lol. Plus, I could be like your own personal tour guide, since I've been so many times lol. Last time I was there, I was with three girl friends, one of which brought her 3 year-old daughter. I knew where all the bathrooms and locker rooms in each park were (in case she needed to go), all the good food places to eat, and where to get booze for us in AK/Epcot/Hollywood Studios, and how to work the Fast Pass machines and avoid lines during peak hours.

  • Ouch Les, I understand why you would be upset. Hugs to you.

Mehg is there any chance it may work out after all or is it a definite no go? Is there anyone else you can take with you? I know it wouldn't be the same but at least you wouldn't be alone.

H is about 90% sure he won't be able to go. He's the type of person who, even if he will be just getting back from a work trip, won't want to plan vacation right afterward. I dunno. He hardly ever takes real vacation time. The last time he took more than a day or two of vacation time was for our wedding, and he was restless to get back to work the whole time.

I just feel like we wasted $150 on his race registration. I'm trying to see if we can transfer it to another person, though. I have a couple friends who might want to run in his place if he can't go.

ETA: But, I'm trying to look on the bright side - at least I'll be saving money on food. I can put that towards a post-race massage at one of the spas. And I can easily get on rides since I'll be by myself. I'll just make sure to bring my Yoda backpack so at least have his company lol. Maybe I'll make him photobomb all the ride photos or something.

Les, I'm really sorry.  I'd be hurt too.

  • I'm sorry, Mehg! I'd be super bummed, I hope you can find some friends/SB'ers who you can go and have a good time with.

Aww, Les. You are definitely not "less than nothing." Maybe your H just needed a reminder? Hopefully he can plan something fun for you this weekend.

  • Celtic, yes.  The new lab technically has money but all of the funds are separated out so only a certain proportion is for lab supplies, a certain amount is for personal/experiment specific supplies, and just general equipment maintenance, etc.  For our particular aspect of the research the grant writing has pretty much been nonexistent.  Some were applied for but seeing the situation I would say we didn't get it.  Also, there just hasn't been enough time to do it, but, I mean, time needs to be made since that's how we get our money.  It's just a tough situation.
  • yeah DJ! that is awesome news about your H. Mine is still on 2P - 10P or 6P - 6A and as much as I love alone time, it gets so old. He'll be on that kind of pattern for another year or two too.

We are heading to my H's hometown about 4 hours away for a fun "small town festival" with all of his friends. We'll see my inlaws too. Fair food, street dance, camping out with friends-it will be a good time.

  • Thanks.

I know it wasn't deliberate, and he's just not wired to remember stuff like that.  But knowing it is important to me, he could put it on hisfucking Outlook calendar.  I'm just really sensitive right now - my friends (not-so-jokingly) refer to me as the 'human disregarded entity' because of all the family bullschit that went on this year.  I'm tired of being invisible.

  • Mehg, I'm sorry. I would be super upset.
  • I wish the race was a different date, mehg, or I'd join you for a day. We're going to Epcot the 5th though, so I unfortunately can't afford 2 trips that close together.

Les, that sucks. I'd be hurt too. I hope he plans something spectacularly awesome to make it up to you.

Not much happening here. I stayed up too late reading a book that is scaring the crap out of me but it's really good. Yesterday H and I spent the day at the cabin where we got married, which was nice. We might go back Saturday night too.
  • Good news on the shift change, dj!

Aw, come on, jcb - you know you want to go camping.  In the woods.  Peeing outdoors.

  • Good morning!

i'm sorry to all of you that are having grumpy mornings.  *hugs*  At least it's almost Friday?

I'm off cleaning this morning and then am spending the afternoon having girl-time with my niece.  We've got a date for chili dogs at DQ and then to share a banana split.  Guess what?  It FINALLY rained last night!  First time in what feels like forever.  I don't know if it's too little-too late since a lot of the farmers have had to put their crops to silage, but maybe it'll help.
Sesh, what book?  I love scary books.
    Posted by jcbsjr
Well, it's not scary in the ghost and alien kind of way, but more of "Holy shiiit this could totally happen to us" way.

It's called "Collapse" by Richard Stephenson (Stevenson? Can't remember). It takes place in 2027 during a Second Great Depression, a month after Florida is destroyed by a Cat. 6 hurricane, and Texas is about to be wiped out as well. The Middle East has formed one massive nation/ally with Iran as the leader and is threatening the US and most of Europe. Gas is over $15 a gallon and trade is pretty much nonexistent.

It focuses on 3 guys in different parts of the US with totally different skill sets who will apparently come together to save the country. I'm only on chapter 6 so they haven't met yet. But the whole time Im reading, I'm thinking, "Stop giving the bad guys ideas, dude!" because everything he talks about sounds like it could really happen. it's chaos, fear, panic, greed, everything you'd imagine in that kind of setting. It scares the crap out of me.
  • Anna I love your sig pic.  It put a big old smile on my face.

Also, any news on Nebb?  By news I mean, I'm not trying to be noisy but is Nebb alive and mostly well?
  • good morning.

    hugs, les, that sucks.
mehg, that sucks, and I'd be pissed, too.

I guess my sister and two best friends have been planning away at my baby shower, and apparently I'm oblivious to how fast this kid is coming. They asked where I was registered, and I haven't even thought about that stuff yet. Looks like we'll be doing that this weekend since they are sending out invites on Saturday lol. They also sent me the guest list for review and to add anyone they missed...dude, there's over 70 people on the list. Looks like we'll be having a big ol party.
