First Dance Song

I'm really into a lot of different music and I've been thinking a lot lately about what I'd like our first dance song to be. I've flip-flopped a few times because I always feel like there's so many choices and I don't want to forget about one.  I know I have a lot of time to figure it out, but it's on my mind so I'm just looking for ideas.

I am very adamant about picking something different and not your typical lovey dovey romantic song that people always use.

What did you chose for your first dance and why?

Love this song! FI played this when he proposed.

My first choice was Otis Redding's That's How Strong My Love Is.  His first choice was Try a Little Tenderness.  Seriously.  Vetoed that one right away.  Weary girls in shaggy dresses doesn't resonate wedding to me.  Finally decided on Paperweight by Joshua Radin and Schuyler Fisk.  I had never heard it before but it's a really great song.  One of the lines is "happy to lay here, just happy to be here, I'm happy to know you."

Oh and if you think Try a Little Tenderness is bad, another song FI wants is Just a Friend by Biz Markie.

I walked down the aisle to "At Last" by Etta James for that very reason, plus it's one of my favorites. Heh.

Our first dance song was "Lucky" by Jason Mraz and Colbie Callait. It is sweet and short, a good tempo for us and it is one of the songs I put on a mix cd for him for his birthday treasure hunt last year. We had some other contenders like "A Kiss to Build a Dream On" by Louis Armstrong or "The Way I Am" by Ingrid Michelson.

H and the bridal party walked down the aisle to "Our Love is Here to Stay", the duet version by Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. It was awesome and perfect. And our recessional was "Ain't it a Kick in the Head" by Dean Martin. Awesome!
