 My MOH asked me if I wanted one of these parties and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I've been to a few and it was fun and seen some really cute cakes decorated like a corset or merry widow.

 I just don't know how I feel about other people watching me open lingerie or buy me lingerie for that matter. I guess if my MOH worked with me on the guest list I could make sure there was no one I was uncomfortable with.

So has anyone else had one? Have you been to one?

I've never been to or had one, but I opened a bunch of underwear and lingerie in front of my SIL, MIL, and mother the night before our wedding. But SIL bought everything and my mom is the first person to suggest what can be done with sexy undergarments....so there's not many people I'm uncomfortable showing that stuff off to.

It could be fun, with the right crowd. But again I don't really know what the parties are. Though a corset cake does sound interesting.

Save it for the bachelorette party.  My BP was from all over the country, so my bachelorette was a naughty/nice party - a combo bachelorette and bridal shower.  It worked great and your mom could come to the first part of the party (dinner/gifts) if she wants to see the racy stuff, then split off later before the "debauchery".

Well... I'm kinda bashful that way.  When I'm with my man I'm as raunchy and kinky and fun as anything but in front of my friends?  Or relatives for that matter?  Uh... nope.

But it all depends on what you're comfortable with.

I was a bridesmaid for a friend a couple years ago and her MOH hired a Pure Romance consultant for part of her bachelorette party.  I have never seen so many toys and dildos and other... ahem... stuff in one place before in my life.  If I hadn't been drinking the entire time I don't think I could have made it through the whole session!  HA!

ETA - What Seshat said about "the right crowd" is right I think.  I don't think I would mind as much to open lingerie given as gifts from my girlfriends, than I would from say, Ben's sisters.  Even if they didn't bring anything like that, it would still be awkward to have to open all these kinky things in front of them that they knew I'd be using with their baby brother.

My sister's friend had one for her, and it was super-duper awkward. She went so far as to have a bag of stuff you had to stick your hand inside and guess what the items were, like a dildo, condoms, whip, handcuffs, etc. If that wasn't bad enough, she then told my sister she couldn't have the bag of goodies (as IF!) because they were hers. Like, her USEDshit. WTF?!? Who does that?!? I gave her the death stare as I washed my hands every 2 minutes for the rest of the shower.

So yeah. Don't play that game, whatever you decide.

Lingerie is a waste, I think.  It's kind of like paying to re-wrap the same Christmas present.  If it's the first time, then ok fine, but after the first time, it's not really a mystery anymore.

Vomit. That is all sorts of wrong.

In my circle of college friends, we typically bring a lingerie type gift to the bachelorette party. My mother and MIL were not invited, and there were no yucky gifts, just nighties and lingerie. So I agree, depends on the crowd and who you're comfortable with opening those sort of gifts. I definitely would not have wanted a separate party for it.

The other girls were all into it!  It's weied b/c I knw the bride still had her V card and her friends and fam were all super religious.  I'm the opposite of all that and was shocked.  She is in AMAZING shape, though!

Aside from that, it was fun because it was all young friends and family.
