Kitty cat update-New Pic/Update

Well, I know half of what's wrong with Whisky. The vet called and said they did the dental and he's waking up but still very groggy, though otherwise healthy. He removed the growth and thinks it's an infected hair follicle, nothing that needs to be sent out for testing unless it grows back. So the poor guy has 3 stitches on his back.

They're still waiting on the fecal results. The vet said that they will go ahead and deworm him if that's what the problem is, otherwise they'll wait for our appointment at 3:30 to discuss what needs to be done.

So Whisky's halfway out of the woods. I'm breathing a little easier, but still worried.

  • So glad to hear this. Hope the other tests come back as nothing.

YAY!! And just so you know, we have rescued cats with parasites and 9 out 10 times the treatments were very simply and successful. It sounds a lot scarier than it is I promise!

    EDIT: simple, not simply
  • That's good to hear, art! I was just looking up hookworms and decided I'm going to get on DH about taking care of our flea and rat problem. We live along the river, so we have the big river rats under our house (which is slightly raised, so there's plenty of room for them). A couple months ago the fleas were really bad because it's so dry, and we had a hell of a time keeping them off Whisky even though he's an inside cat.

Even if that's not the cause of the parasite, it's time to break out the traps and get rid of the damn things. We refuse to use poison because we don't want to hurt the owls and osprey around us, so DH is just gonna have to suck it up and crawl under the house to lay some traps.
  • Yay Whisky. Animals look so miserable when they are coming out from dentals, so don't be worried if he's out of it for the rest of the day. Katie looked so pathetic and dopey.
  • Great news to hear! :o)

  • That's great, Seshat.  I would be totally freaked out if we had to wait to find out about one of our kitties--I'm glad you've hear good news so far.  And I agree with Art, I grew up on a farm, and parasites were almost always a really easy fix. :-)

  • Great news!!! Yay!
  • Yay, Whisky's home! He's a lttle out of it and he keeps trying to lick the stitches, but mostly he's licking the fur around where he was shaved. Turns out there was no parasite (double yay!), there was an increase in white blood cells that the vet thinks was probably caused by fleas, which we had a major problem with a couple months ago.

So we have to be careful right now about keeping Revolution on him. we also have to watch and make sure the cyst doesn't come back. But other than that, he's healthy. Here's a pic of Whisky on with a "whaaat?" look on his face:

  • Ahhhh........Hi Whiskey! He is so pretty, I'm so glad he's ok.

I didnt want to say it earlier, but my Pookey had to go in to have a tooth extracted, and they found he had diabetes. He lived pretty well with it for another 2 years. But then it took him about a year and half ago. He was 14, and was my big baby. I still miss him very much.

  • Aw, I'm sorry kd. Whisky is 14 right now. The vet said it looks like he has two "sharp spots" in either side of his mouth, which are probably caused by teeth that were broken off long ago since the gums have grown over them. But he didn't want to go digging in there. A lot of his teeth were broken off in his old home since the former owner abused him, so that's likely where it happened.

He finally just went to sleep, so I don't have to keep pulling him away from licking/scratching. Hopefully he'll sleep for awhile.
  • Yay!  Hope Whisky gets 100% out of the woods.  Baxter had issues a few weeks ago with his back, but we just took him in a few days ago and the steroids they put him on totally helped.  He has his dental in August.
  • Awww he is adorable...I'm so glad your kitty is ok!  I LOVE animals, especially cats, I have one myself >^..^<  would lovvvve more, lol.  My old kitty Spunky (RIP) got in a fight once and got an infection on his back, and they had to sew 2 tubes in to let it drain.  I felt so bad for him.  I used to want to be a vet, but I absolutely cannot deal with seeing animals in pain. :(    But again, very happy to hear Whisky is ok :)  (That's such a cute name, btw)
