...ask for my mom's silver? (Wasn't sure where to post this so I'll try here since I have a bit of a tude about it )

In all fairness it isn't my mom's silver (as in servingware) it's my late paternal grandmother's and I am almost 100% positive it is still in my mom's possesion. Down to the nail, I want it. I don't want to register for our own silver because I want my grandmother's who passed when I was 7. My mom and dad aren't even toegther anymore, she is living with her boyfriend and his kids and I don't know for sure if she has it at his house or still at her old house (it's practically empty of the "important" things but she doesn't live there). I don't know if she ever plans to use it, I highly doubt it. My mom is a massive c u next thursday but I don't even think she would use her ex-husband's mother's silver with her boyfriend's family.

How do I go about getting it?

I wouldn't outright ask for it, but I think you should let her know that you want it.

I would bring it up some time when you're talking with your mom, 
"Hey Mom, do you remember grandma's silver?  I always thought it was beautiful."  And just see how it goes.

LOL Oh she knows, and she embraces it... we don't have the best relationship and I don't plan on trying to improve it. She's one of those people that will be all buddy buddy with you and then turn around and sh*t all over you when she is in a bad mood, or god forbid her and her boyfriend fight.

I think I'll bring it up while I'm registering, maybe something like "I wish they made silver like grandma's still, I've always loved hers"

Tell your mom you were thinking about what to register for.  Then explain that you would rather have your grandmother's silver instead of a new set. 

She's probably forgotten about the silver and would be glad to give you a family heirloom.  If she gives you trouble, talk to your dad (if he's around?) or a family member on your dad's side.
