GRRRRRRRRRR

The rehearsal dinner is proving to be the most complicated thing about the entire wedding.

We will have about 50 people and I cant find a place in the close proximity of the venue that can accomodate 50 people. Most tell me they dont have a room or cant promise we will sit together and be served at the same time.

So my idea was to use the banquet room at hotel where everyone is staying and just bring food in. So I call and get prices and it would be under $500 for barbeque with all the fixings and we would just pick it up and set it out and everyone get what they want.

Called FI to tell him and he goes Uhhh I dont know if I like that idea. I tried to explain all the issues I have ran into and he just says I dont want it to be like a buffet it sounds tacky.. Really! We are feeding them and we will be at the hotel already. The only other option is a place that is $15 per person and we cant afford that.  He said we will worry about it later we have plenty of time.  Umm no we really dont. I would tell him to figure it out but then it really wouldn't get done.

Re: GRRRRRRRRRR

  • I'm glad that I am letting my FMIL handle that part of it. I guess her making chili, gumbo, cornbread and banana pudding is going to be tacky, but I don't care. Its going to be yummy and there will be good company- thats all I really care about.
  • For our wedding, H's parents did a really simple soups, bread and a couple desserts thing at the church.  It wasn't fancy, didn't cost a ton, but people got to sit and talk and eat together.  Tell your FI to stop being stuck up.

Yeah, my future-in-laws are handling it too.

Honestly what you've described is not tacky, it's laid-back.  You should tell him fine... that HE can figure something out :)

  • I agree with all of you. We cant really cook ourselves or anything cause we are getting married 3 hours from where we live. Plus our wedding is going to be very formal and have a nice meal the next day so to me it would be nice to be relaxed and laid back.

Plus this comes from the guy who wants to run cable from living room to game room so he drills a hole in the ceiling and drops the cable down.. lol...

Well FMIL is a professor at texas state and also a counselor at a elemtary school so she doesnt have alot of time so that is why I am looking.  I am going to tell her and see what she says. If they end of paying for it then FI cant say crap anyway!

  • We had pizze from Pizza Hut for our RD. Tacky? Maybe to some. But it was delicious and I don't give a damn. Tell your FI to get over it.

It's at this point that I smile sweetly and say: "Okay, hon.  You do it."

Sorry -- I know it's stressful.  FWIW, I think your idea is great!  I wish we could do something similar with ours but my FIL's are hosting and are insisting on some stuffy sit down affair so they can get to know my parents before the wedding.

eta: Have I mentioned that their determination to befriend my parents is getting creepy?  Because it really is.

    Dealbreaker!

Kidding of course, but that would totally suck.
  • HAHAH Stacy actually I am not a big pizza person either. He isn't allergic to all. Just some.  There is some spice that they put in the sauce at some places and not others. I dont want to chance it with a new place and he break out in hives the night before the wedding.

I think he will come around to my idea I am thinking he is just sick and not thinking about it the right way.  He has a tendency to hear what he wants.

I think that is all FI's.. My FI has "selective hearing:

I can stand there and say his name about 6 times and he will finally look at me and say "what"

Then again his dad and his brother are the same way.. I think it runs in the family

  • We're doing two separate pre-wedding food events.  The RD is two days before the wedding and strictly for the wedding party, parents, and officiant.  We're doing a family welcome BBQ and pool party at FI's family's house the day before that will be casual and inexpensive.  I think we'll also do a post wedding brunch the morning after at my favorite restaurant but I'm not hosting that so it will be whoever wants to come and pay their own way.

  • I LOVE the ideas of pizza and bbq.... to me that's not tacky... that's laid back and delicious.

  • I think if I sit down with him and talk to him about it he will come around. It was just so frusterating cause I had just called about 10 places to have the RD at.

  • um. My wedding meal was buffet.  No one thought it was tacky; in fact everyone said they appreciated it, because they got to choose what to eat. :)
