Wild animals that attack

Re: Wild animals that attack

  • The link didn't work on my computer so I couldn';t check that out.

If an animal attacks in the wild I don't think we should hunt it down and euthanize it.  People need to learn to respect wild animals, especially when in the animals' habitats.  They are just doing what comes to them naturally for the most part.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. • Killed?  ...I dunno about that.  Maybe tranquilized and transported elsewhere.

  • I'm terrible. I actually very often cry over an animal's death more than a human's, so I'm likely going to be the one with the unpopular opinion.

No, I don't think those animals should be put down. The wild is their home, their habitat, and the humans are the ones encroaching on it. I don't want to deny people the enjoyment of camping and the wilderness, but come on - you're out in the woods where the bears live. You have to see that it could potentially be dangerous.
  • Depends.  If someone stumbles upon a mother bear and cubs while out hiking and she attacks, no she shouldn't be destroyed.

If a bear repeatedly comes into a town and is aggressive towards people and all other attempts have been made to save him, then possibly.  By "all other attempts" I mean moving him to a location further from a city for example.

  • I don't think the animal should be put down. People just need to be more careful and educate themselves.

  • I don't think so.  This is one of those things that has always irked me.

If someone is going to go hiking or camping in the wild, said person should realize there is a risk of a wild animal attack.  It's not like the animal is a known murderer out to get humans - it's wild animal with natural, animalistic instincts that are at times aggresive.  I don't understand how the vengence of killing an animal for it acting naturally in it's own environment is justified.

I haven't read it but my friend did and he's been trying to get me to read it for a while now.   He said it was awesome.

I saw the movie and thought it was pretty good. I found it very sad.

  • My FI's cat attacks me just in the house, I definitely think it should be put down.  Unfortunately it's only 7 too so I have at least another decade of putting up with it.

  • Sorry B! :(

I don't think they should be killed. That being said I am a huge animal/bug lover. I get upset when someone kills bugs in front of me.

Yes!  The movie was chilling.  The book is even better, IMO.
  • I don't believe in killing for the sake of convenience - even if it's just a bug. I will carry an ant outside, and make DH carry a spider outside. I want the spider to live, but no way, no how am I going to carry him.

  • I'm pretty sure it's our server at fault, Ricks.  Our IT guy was the friend who passed away last week and our server has been just barely running ever since.  He used to have to do daily maintenance on it and now there's no one touching it.

  • Oh sorry Ricks.  I don't think they should be killed either.
  • Okay good B!

I love spiders Sept! They are pretty cool looking.

  • Yeah, I can't get on the love-spiders train. No can do. I get that they're super cool and can spin all sorts of neato webs that are customizable to suit their needs, but they're squicky. It's like I can hear their little legs running up my arm, "tickytickytickyticky"

    ::shudder::
  • Yeah I don't think I want one ON me. Gah!

  • In Texas we have Castle Laws, which means if someone invades you rhome, you have the right to shoot them, basically.

I give wild animals the same right. If I invaded his/her home and was a perceived threat to their food source or family, I'd expect to get mauled, and if I was, it would be no one's fault but my own.

  • I think these responses are interesting considering the thread not too long ago against PETA and for meat-eating. Not a lot of the same posters are here, but it's still interesting that a lot of people said yes to meat and fur, but majority here won't kill a bear that has attacked more than one person.

I am vegetarian and pro-animal rights, but if an animal has some wires loose and is attacking like crazy (like this bear was), it should be put down, sorry. Yes, we are on it's territory, but its become our territory too (this is where it gets tricky). These people weren't hiking in the wilderness, they were sleeping in their tents. It's just a matter of survival for me. Dropping the bear off at another point may bring about the same ordeal.

Now the fact that in this case they just caught a random bear, and many of the campers said it wasn't the one, well, that just sucks.

  • I should say that I'm basing my opinion more on Mountain Lions here in Oregon than bears. A mountain lion will come down into farmer's land for livestock, and then eventually attack a child. It's horrible. What are you suppose to do when a wild animal gets a memory and taste for something it shouldn't have? I'm not saying putting it down is the absolute solution. I'm just wondering out loud.

I don't even like to think about it involving bears and camping food *shudder*.
