When FI and I rented, sometimes I would give him a check directly and he would pay the rent. In the memo line I'd write things like "for sex" and he would unabashedly cash them.

haha my friend is a teller, and she likes to write obnoxious things on the checks whenever she has to pay me back for something (dinner? presents we go in on together? etc)

"services rendered in bed" was my favorite.

Oh nope - not a joke I don't think.  His next text was explaining how they are originally from Africa. 

I don't doubt that this stuff happens in the US of course, I just find it interesting.

lots of cultures still do dowries.. arranged marriages etc. its not unusual at all.

but I second the funny messages. When H first moved in he'd write me checks for things and put "for loves" "for kisses" etc in the memo line.

While dowries are no longer used in my family.. they used to be. and my grandparents were arranged.. and other stuff My family is middle eastern. if u cant tell from the photo- my husband is definitely not lol.

My sister and I both write in messages in the memo lines of our checks.  Some of my favorites.

Rope, duct tape, switch blade

just stuff for fun, some things are probably not the best ideas, but it's funny.

When I was a teller I seriously once got a check for $50.00 where the memo line said "Gayest Butt Secks". It was a check written off of our bank, and the account owner was a 19-year-old boy.

When Scott asked my dad for his blessing dad teased him that he required 2 horses and a coon skin cap as the bride price. Sure enough Scott bought him 2 model horses and a coon skin cap (from the party store) and gave them to him at the RD. When dad helped us out with some money stuff I wrote the check for "additional bride price". Apparently the teller started laughing hysterically and asked how the wedding was when she read it (I bank there too).

Er, FI thought it would be funny to name our savings account "Hookers & Blow" and tried to shock me with the suggestion.  I ended up surprising him by just thinking its funny.

This is my story exactly, so that is a little creepy.

When Scott was in Uganda, he was offered the sister of a guy he met at a party, and a few times he had to explain that, no, he didn't own the girls he hung out with and no, you could not have them for a cow.

Honestly though, this is hilarious. I have never thought to do this. I don't even use the mom lines in checks (mostly because I hardly ever use them).

Hmmmm. In the last 6 months, my husband has given me money (through intra-bank tranfsers) for placenta popsicles, bloody monkey feet, moonshine,happy endings, peg legs and midget ribcage chandeliers. Maybe dowry will be next
