Laugh at this moron with me

I've been laughing at this guy (<---Clicky) all day.  Obviously the blatant racism is not amusing to me, but the following points about this guy are:

1.  He founded a political party called "Rent is 2 Damn High" (apparently meant to be said with a pause after the 2 and a very forceful "DAAaaAMN").  I guess the Daily News decided to correct his grammar and replaced the number 2 with the word.
2.  He truly believes he's going to win this election.
3.  He thinks he'd beating out one of the front runners because during the debate last night the candidate said that rent really is too high in NYS.
4.  He went on Opie and Anthony this morning and when they announced him by name he corrected them and told them to call him "The man."

So right now we can choose between a bunch of swindlers, this guy, and the chick who ran the escort service that previous NY Governor Elliot Spitzer frequented.  This should be interesting.

  • Awesome.  Politics make me laugh sometimes... then I realize people are being serious and it concerns me.

We had a vampire run for Governor of MN last election.

Although, i guess it depends on what part of NY you're talking about, and what you're comparing it to.
  • Want low property taxes? Move to California. They're like 1% and they can't reassess your house after you buy it. Warren Buffet says he pays less property tax on his Newport Beach mansion than on his house in Omaha.

Of course, that's 1% of housing prices in CA, which aren't cheap...

I've lived in Buffalo, Ithaca and Watertown (my parents live there, though I've never rented there) and my brother lives in the Syracuse area. I have many friends who still live in Buffalo and Ithaca. My mother is a real estate agent in the north country.

I can't really think of a major urban area that would more expensive than any of those places. (Except, maybe Poughkeepsie, which would be at the outer reaches of the NYC area anyway.) I concede I don't know much about the capital region real estate market.

Edit: While this is anecdotal, I have a friend who bought a house outside Rochester a few years ago and prices seemed to be similar to Buffalo and Watertown. Also, I live in Los Angeles, so my view of "cheap" housing is skewed. Anyone who can get a decent house in a decent area for $350k or less is insanely lucky, IMO. That doesn't happen in the LA metro area. Especially not in good school districts (which don't really exist here, anyway).

Oh no, I wasn't even referring to NYC. Rockland and Westchester counties are pretty pricey just in general. I remember looking at housing prices in the area I grew up in. And if I wanted something that had 4 bdrms and 2 baths, that didn't require massive renovations and updating, then you're talking $400K. And that's at the low end of the spectrum.

It's not like that in every town, some are worse than others. But overall the houses/rent and taxes are not cheap at all. You'd be hard presses to find a studio in some areas for under $1K. It's insane
