Snarky Brides

etsy

I'm bored.
What types of things do you look for on etsy? Who are some of your favorite sellers/shops? Do you sell anything on etsy? Do you have friends that sell things on etsy?

Right now I am looking for cuff links in the "Geekery" category for FI.

ETA: I know the lady behind Stick Lizard Designs. We train for triathlons together and she is an amazing bead artist.

  • I've been doing a LOT of etsy for my wedding stuff.  I had a thread in here just the other night asking about jewelry opinions.

But yeah - LOVE that site.  It's like crack... only more addicting.

  • Speaking of geekery cufflinks, I just bought these for FI off esty. It took my etsy virginity. Geogeekery at its best.

  • I look at the jewelry a lot for inspiration.  I usually see something I like and try to make something similar.

FI loves to look at the office supplies and the wine racks (but he hates when I tell people that he likes etsy, so we'll just pretend this part didn't happen)

There are some dresses on there that I really want.

I don't sell anything, I may eventually sell jewelry, but I think that market is pretty saturated, and my stuff's not near as good as a lot of what's there.
  • I got a lot of wedding stuff on there - cufflinks for DH, felt boutinierre for him, some jewelry for my BMs, clutches, veil, etc.

I also like shopping etsy for home stuff and housewarming gifts.  We got DH's best friend and his wife a really cool bowl made out of a map of Nepal (where they met) when they bought their first house.

I also like browsing the clothes but I'm too chicken to buy something online that I've never tried on and can't just return to a store.
  • Oh Petra! Those are awesome!

I have no idea what I'm looking for, I just know geekery is the right category.

<div>Thanks! The coolest part is I've an extensive trilobite collection from the same formation in Utah. So, it's kind of like giving him a piece of myself. </div><div>
</div><div>A word of advice on geekery cufflinks, if you like steampunk watch-works, be careful to look at a close up view of the cufflinks. The more regresty-style merchants use watch-works with the manufacturer imprinted on them. Nothing ruins good steampunk like having CASIO stamped all over your cool Victorian looking watchwork cufflinks!  </div><div>
</div><div>If your FI likes maps, I found a great little merchant who sells compass rosettes covered with antique glass cabachons.</div>

  • I love buying presents from etsy.  You can always find something for those people who have everything (looking at you, dad, and grandparents.)

I bought my wedding necklace and earrings from etsy, and our wedding bands.
  • Thanks for the advice, Petra. I'm still getting through the many pages of cufflinks. My initial idea was for some warcraft inspired ones, but I don't see any. I did find some that are stamped with "love" written in binary code. Those are definitely a contender.

  • I sell on etsy (same screenname). I have two great Etsy stories. The obvious one is that my fiancé bought my ring from a seller there. I showed him the seller (mastergoldcraft) but he picked the ring/stone. I walked him through ordering, and knew when the ring arrived at his parents' house, but he didn't propose for another month. I almost went looking for the box; good thing I didn't because I would've found it in the first place I thought of looking--his underwear drawer.

The other story just tickles me. So, I favorited this vintage silver ring with a star sapphire in it. It looked so pretty in the pictures and wasn't terribly expensive, but I just couldn't justify ordering it for myself. Well, as Christmas approached, I noticed one day that the ring had sold. Darn! But what should I open Christmas morning at my grandmother's house but that same ring... it was her very first time ordering on Etsy and she had picked the star sapphire ring from my list as a gift. Yay!
