A conundrum

If you were having trouble opening a file on a computer, would you do any of the following things?

a. read options on the screen
b. look at the menu bar that popped up at the top of the screen and then click on it
c. read any boxes to make sure what you wanted was happening, like opening an encrypted file.
d. click blindly and then ask for help?

I'm trying to decide if my expectations are too high.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • Well generally speaking I can operate computers quite well, so if I was unable to open a file I'd assume it was either the file, or the computer, but not me.
  • TBH, I only answered D because I was channelling a few of my coworkers at the time :)

  • This lady asked for my help and then looked at my blankly while I tried to say something nicer than, "Do it like a normal person with basic problem solving skills."

  • My coworker comes into my office all the time with his Eureka moments.  He learned the other day that ctrl+c copies text so he doesn't have to right click and go to copy anymore.  He busted into my office like he'd discovered the cure to cancer.

  • Oooookayyyy
Well then I am just perplexed at her lack of computer skillzzz.
  • I fancy myself more computer savvy than the average person, but there have been a few occasions when I've slammed my laptop on my desk, hoping that would either solve the problem or destroy the laptop, inevitably forcing me to buy a new one. :)

  • C!  I'm computer savvy, I would poke my eyes out if I couldn't figure it out ;)

  • For me it would depend on what the error message was. If it was currupted I would know that there wasn't much hope, but if it is something that offers options or help instruction then I read and follow. However, I get your frustration, I am the person that everyone comes to here when they are having computer issues.

  • What you have right there is a common thing NS. I call it, a PEBKAC. I told my boss about PEBKAC errors today and he laughed like a crazy man for 30 minutes until the principal poked her head in to ask why he was in such a good mood.

What is a PEBKAC error you say? Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair. ;)
