If I had to carry around something that expensive everyday I would have a heart attack. I would also kill my FI because that 2 mill could have gone to something much better than a ring. She is going to have man hands from carrying that heavy thing around.

Whatever, I like the ring and I know I'm probably in the minority but I love the Kardashians.  I wouldn't trade my ring for anything, but if Ben got me a 20.5 carat ANYTHING (provided he was in a position to do so, lol) I'd wear it with pride.  I'd love anything he got me, tbh.

I think it's tacky as shiit, and I'd never wear it. BUT they're in a position to afford it, so who cares.  It's kind of in her nature to be over-the-top anyway, ya know?  

FWIW, Kate Middleton's (i.e. Diana's) ring is about 18.5 carats, and no one is saying that one is too big. Just because it's not a diamond? Is that the difference? Or the fact that she's royalty?

I thought I saw a bunch of people say it was too big, Steph.  I mean, it's not my taste to have such a large clear stone, but a colored stone doesn't look as bad.  I like big cocktail rings and that's what Kate's reminds me of.  Although, she probably won't wear it regularly, anyway, right? I think she just wears the band now.

I agree with this. I think big clear stones look like costume jewelry or more fake to me. A big sapphire or a big ruby is more believable to me for some reason. Obviously, her ring isn't fake though.

The ring looks emerald cut, to me.  Is it?  I like emerald cut diamonds but not as much as other cuts.  I don't think they shine as much.  Khloe's ring is more sparkly and I like it better.

Khloe's is like 7 carats and it was something around 2 million and even THAT is too big.

Damn, Kate Middleton's sapphire is "only" 18 carats.

ETA: I see Steph beat me to it. I think there's also a psychological issue - you know a sapphire doesn't cost as much as a diamond (stupid inflated diamond prices, thanks DeBeers). Kate's ring cost something ike $60,000 new in 1980/1981. AND it's a family heirloom. I don't know. I CAN see a difference, but I think wearing either ring on a daily basis would get old.

I think gemstones carats' weight is different than diamonds. Like 1 carat of a diamond =/= 1 carat ruby/opal/sapphire.

I'd be really curious who paid for it, too (or big discount for advertising the shiit out of the jeweler?). Although, he IS employed. It's Jessica Simpson's FI who isn't.

I don't think I want 20 carats of anything on my hands, and I DO have man hands.

Carat is a measurement of weight, not dimension, so while 1 carat diamond is the same weight as a sapphire, 1 carat sapphire is smaller than a one carat diamond because a sapphire is a denser gemstone. That's why, while Kate's (The Duchess of Cambridge's) ring has an 18 carat sapphire, the sapphire is a lot smaller than the 16.5 carat emerald-cut center stone on Kim Kardashian's ring. Of course, Diana <em>did</em> choose that ring in the first place mostly because it was the biggest.

Personally, I've always felt that either is too big, but I get tiny little rings caught in sweaters all the time and can't imagine what I'd do with a frickin' doorknob on my hand. Plus, I measure all rings by whether I could wear gloves over them in the winter. Because you can't keep wearing the ring anyway if you get frostbite and your fingers fall off.
