Spray tanning

Sigh, I've asked before but...I don't remember and can't find the post (it was months ago).

I'm thinking of getting a spray tan before we leave next week or maybe once I'm there.

I've googled but I can't find a good estimate of how much it costs. I know I want the kind where the booth sprays me because its cheaper and right now, I'm just not comfortable having someone do it for me. Which kind is the best machine?

Re: Spray tanning

  • I had one done last summer at Sun Tan City. It was called something like Versaspa. Regular price for one session was $40. But I went on a Sunday and it was half price. I was impressed with the results. But it only lasts about one week.

  • Yea, I heard they don't last long which is what turned me off of them last time but I just want it for while I'm on vacation so thats ok.
  • I did it once and looked like I got into a fight with a bottle of orange paint and lost tragically.

I am of no help.  Sorry.

  • Blue- I worry about that too but I feel like they've gotten better over the years and I would just go very light. I just don't want to look pasty like this:

  • You don't look pasty. I'm freakishly pale. With the Versaspa, you choose light, medium or dark. I went with the light and it just gave me an even glow. I would check it out.

  • I guess I'll be calling some places tomorrow.

I'd really, really like to go to my old place back home once we get there but I'm planning on getting my hair done and don't know the 2 would work together.
  • I wen to LA Tan and it was $40.  Be sure to COVER your fingers inside and out up and down and also your toes, knees, palms and elbows.  They will elave streaks.  And make sure to REALLY wipe up when your done.  Like major.  It usually turns out fine for me.  Oh and wipe off deodorant. :)
It's time. Adoption saving and process started in November 2012.

  • I embraced my paleness years ago, back in the 80's in fact when a lot of people acted as if something was wrong with you if you did not have a tan.

I would hope anyone doing this had photos available for you to see. I would ask for them.
  • You look better in that photo than the tan woman beside you, Roxy. Just sayin. I did spray tan once, and I'm so pale it looked painted on my skin. I ended up scrubbing it off before I even left for vacation!

  • I wouldn't do it babe! You have great skin and spray tans can flake, and sometimes they don't react well with sunscreen etc. Why worry about it?
  • I have really pale skin, and I only recommend the very lightest of the spray tans.

I used a Mystic Tan booth when I graduated from college - it was approximately $25/session.  It had really great results, much better than the lotion (which gets on knuckles and knees and elbows and hands and can streak).  They recommend putting baby lotion on the souls of your feet, on your fingers and the palms of your hands, and on your elbows and knees before starting the spray tan.  This will keep it from looking blatantly white compared to the tan, but will prevent it from getting much color as it will wipe off with the lotion after.

  • I do versa spa about once a week.....I really like it but thats me.

I recommend exfoliating before you go. Also, apply lotion the night before you do it and try to apply it when you have the tan (lasts longer). I think versa is great because it actually has moisturizers  in it - and it has more of a reddish undertone to it vs. Mystic which I think had more of an orange undertone. I would start with light and you can either get sprayed clear (color shows up in about 4 hrs) or with bronzer. I get clear because the bronzer gets on clothes (but has always washed out). With mystic I felt like i had to apply a ton of that lotion cream (they call it barrier cream) to my hands and feet, for some reason with Versa I just put a little bit on my feet and hands (like I am applying lotion). Actually one time I was in a hurry and forgot to put the lotion on and you couldn't even tell.

I'm pretty pale too and I just like having a tan in the summer without lots of sun (I have had  moles removed in the past).

Hope this helps. When you go, just tell them it's your first time and they make you watch this video on how to do it.  It's really easy. PM me if you have more questions!

  • I've done Mystiq Tan before and it's okay.

I know it's kind of awkward having someone spray you down but I swear it's the best way, I used to do it fairly regularly. You don't have to get naked! Unless you're into that :)
  • babe, please don't do the human car wash tan. please get airbrushed by hand! trust me, it's worth it.

a family member has owned an airbrush tan salon for 10 yrs, so you can always email me if you have any questions! :)
