Snarky Brides

Mornin'

I figured out what the glass breaking noise was Sunday night.  It was the streetlight outside our house.  I realized when I went to bed last night and it wasn't shining in the room.  Glad to have that figured out.

On another note, I got so much done yesterday that I feel like today should be Wednesday. It's also raining, which made the morning weird.

Re: Mornin'

  • Morning Pirate!

I'm only here for a few. I have my doctors appointment this morning. I started every 2 week appointments last time.

Did the light make it harder for your to sleep? There is a streetlight that makes the bedrooms in the front of our house glow. I'm glad it's not the master.

  •  Glad you figured out what it was, Pirate.

Good luck at your doctor appointment, Hike.

Morning all.  H and I had a good time celebrating his birthday last night.  I got him a cake and the dogs and I sang him happy birthday.  It was fun =).

Not much going on today.  It's probably going to pour when I get off work which sucks because I'd really like to go for a run.  Hopefully it holds off for me.

    Have a great day, ladies!

  • Hope the appointment goes well Hike! You're getting so close!!! When is your H supposed to be back?

I gave my written notice at work yesterday.  I had verbally told my direct supervisor b/c our team leader was gone when I went in last Thursday to grab some stuff.  Apparently she forgot to pass along my last day of work to our TL (which will be next Tuesday..not even two weeks notice), so my TL wasn't horribly thrilled when I handed that to her yesterday.  But she is amazing and very understanding, so she was very supportive in the end.

I'm also shocked at the lack of news coverage of this:
    http://www.latimes.com/news/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-milwaukee-sikh-vigil-20120806,0,5532617.story
(A man who is part of a white supremacist group gunned down a Sikh temple, killing 6 and wounding 3 in Milwaukee)
And of course, as I'm typying this GMA shows a short snippet of a story that they will be showing this morning about it.
  • I'm not quite sure Chels. Hopefully by next month but things always change. I think I posted this the other night so I hope it isn't annoying but we are in the middle of 40 days of no communication so I have no idea what is going on.

  • Morning. I feel like I actually slept well for the first time in awhile last night. H and I were in bed watching TV by 830 ad asleep by 915. I made dinner with my new cookware that I got yesterday and I love it. I need to send a thank you note today before I forget.
  • Glad you figured out the source, pirate.

I'm about to call the school and figure out why they haven't sent my parking pass, and I'm worried they will try to screw me out of it since they are now sold out, even though I paid for it. But the good news is they got my Blackboard issue figured out so now I can start building the course online (crap that makes me nervous).

Also, we had our bi-annual reviews yesterday and mine was pretty much awesome. My supe said she saved me for last because I was the only one who had no complaints against me from management or QC, so I was the only one who didn't biiitch her out. All Big Boss cared about was whether or not I was still "being an introvert" and I guess she talked me up so now he's pleased with me. So that was a good way to end the day.
  • That's awesome Sesh!

  • chels - I saw it all over msnbc.com yesterday, and I recall anna posting about it on FB as well. I saw a news piece on it this morning, too, talking about it.

Morning everyone. My next-door neighbors were being super loud this morning. They're moving out, and decided to load their U-Haul at 4:30am this morning. They were banging the ramp around, so I woke up to the lovely sounds of aluminum scraping pavement. I am not a happy bunny.

But, my CW brought in some homemade kale chips and they are friggin' amazing. I have some kale at home right now that I think I'll make some chips out of. Also, my girl friend invited me to girls' night tonight at this country-western bar. Apparently, they've started doing Magic Mike night on Tuesdays, and she really wants to go. She told me she's not comfortable going out to places like that alone, but she's also lonely and needs to get out of the house (she's single). I figured I'd go and check it out and offered to be her DD for the night.

And no worries Hike, not annoying. I had't seen anything posted about it yet, but I also haven't been around as much lately. 40 days?! That would drive me insane. You are a strong woman!  Hopefully you hear from him soon!  Is he on an assignment or something that you can't talk to him?
  • That's awesome Sesh! Good job!

We get reviewed bi-annually as well, and I have love/hate for it. I love seeing where I stand and where I can grow, but I hate having to talk myself up to my chain of command. We get marked on 23 different aspects of our performance, and if we want high marks, we have to provide specific instances of our awesomeness. Our marks directly affect how quickly or slowly we get promoted, so I take them very seriously, even though they are a PITA.

  • Chels - that story has been on the news non-stop here. We mainly watch local news since we don't have cable and it is still heavily covered.

Pirate - I am glad you found the source of that sound. I am jumpy as hell and would probably have been up for hours after hearing that.

We watched Stand by Me last night. I had forgotten just how great it was. It was also funny thinking about what all the actors grew up to look like. Jerry O'Connell was certainly the biggest change!

  • Making chips is the best way to eat kale. I love kale chips.

I got my hairs cut last night and I love it! *does fancy lady twirl*
But I forgot to wear my wedding ring today, so I feel naked.

  • Sesh, that's awesome! I love good reviews. On another note, my phone autocorrects your name to Arab. H just told me that in my sleep I punched him in the face and then started petting him. I don't remember my dreams.
  • Well, the parking dude said they mailed the passes on the 1st so it should come in any day. Makes no sense since my receipt said it would come in 7 days (from July 4th) and the temp pass only went to July 14th. Guy better be right.

Mehg, kale chips are disgusting. One of H's customers makes them and always wants to share and I feel bad telling her that they taste like moldy feet. Luckily H likes them.
  • morning.
    GL at the Dr. Hike!
Chels, I'm torn on how I feel about that not being so public. Part of me feels like it's good for people involved, so they can grieve and have some time to come to terms with what happened, without a bunch of cameras in their face. BUT I would hate to think that these people feel like what has happened to them isn't as important. Any place of worship is sacred, and should be a place where people can feel safe, and not have to worry about this kind of nonsense, and that's been ripped away from them. I feel like this country takes such a huge step back when someone so stupid and ignorant carries out such a stupid vicious act :(

Well, we can never talk. There is only email on subs. But when they are on a mission, there is no email. This mission will be around 40 days so I won't be hearing from him.

  • Chelsea I haven't noticed a lack of news coverage about that shooting.  It's been front page above the fold of our local paper for two days.  It's on the national and local news coverage I've watched.  I think there's a lack of public reaction (when compared to other shootings, like Aurora, or school shootings), but not a lack of news coverage. Even the link you provided is not local to the shooting.
  • Good Morning Ladies!

Chels, I just heard about that because someone posted about it on FB...and now I think of it, it must have been Anna's post that I saw.

Nothing exciting going on here today - I'm meeting with my debt consolidation guy tonight after work, which I'm happy about. I'm drowning since I moved out of the house so this will help me out a lot.  Visiting the kids after that, and then early to bed. I've been absolutely exhausted these last couple of weeks. I feel like no matter what I do, I'm not getting enough sleep. Gross.
  • Pirate, that's good that you found out what it was.  That would have bothered me not knowing!

Good luck at your appointment Hike!

Sesh, good news on the review.

Chels, I read an article about it yesterday and someone had commented saying that it was "worse" than the theatre shooting because they targeted a specific group.  I didn't like how that came across.

    Morning!

So, I thought I was over the whole FSIL comments at the shower but after getting out of work and calling my mother and again hearing how perfect/stunningly gorgeous, etc. she is I had a semi melt down.  Its really stupid to get upset over that.  I didn't get all emotional on the phone with my mom but I was like "We get it.  I've known for almost 6 years how amazingly perfect she is and it would be nice if people could stop calling and telling me that at/after my shower!"  My mom continued to say "Oh, you are alright Leah.  You are cute and little."  Umm thanks.  I went home and cried.  Like legit ugly cried.  I always knew I was semi- insecure but never that much.  I'm super embarrassed.  I don't really want to share that with anyone IRL so now you guys get to judge away at how immature I'm being ;)

    Yay! And I miss River Phoenix. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cry.gif" border="0" alt="Cry" title="Cry" />

I started reading <em>Carrie</em> last night while H was watching Olympics basketball (snoooooore), and am so hooked. I'm already 1/3 of the way through it, and would have gotten further had we not left to go to dinner and get groceries. I just love Stephen King's writing style. ETA: not a lot of people know that Stephen King wrote the novella (<em>The Body</em>) that Stand By Me is based on, since it's not 'scary'. I loved it, though, and read it along with <em>Apt Pupil</em> and <em>Rita Hayworth and</em><em> Shawshank Redemption</em>.

  • I never read the book Carrie, I've only seen the movie.  I'm a little mad about that because I've always been a firm believer that books are WAY better than the movie version.  I tend to get disappointed in the movies because they always cast people differently than I envisioned or leave out good parts that were in the books.
  • LBarr, I must have missed the original comments about your shower. Is this your brother's FI or your FI's sister? Either way, "cute and little" sounds more patronizing than complimenting.

Interesting.  That could be an interesting debate I'd imagine.  Which motive is "worse"? Killing a bunch of people because their skin is different than yours or killing a bunch of people because you're simply effed up/pissed off?  It's just all so sad :(

I must live under a rock then. I saw it on the local news yesterday morning and didnt hear anything about it again until this morning.  I'm glad there is more coverage than I realize.

[QUOTE]Morning! Busy day at work for me today and then we're tackling some yard work when we get home.  I'm thinking about having 3 of our shrubs pulled out and replace with something lower maintenance this fall so I need to do some research on the cost of having that done. I signed into FB this morning and got a good laugh out of my mom's status. It just says "motor boating" and that is all.  She and dad are taking their boat out today. I think I may need to send her a link to Urban Dictionary so she can educate her self.  Gotta love parents.

hahahaha does she listen to country music?  Every time I hear that line ("motor boating") in Pontoon, my mind goes to the gutter.
  • Thanks Dmill,  I feel so stupid about it.  I told FI I'm not fishing for compliments or anything I just felt really down about myself after that.  Also, Sesh, I agree.... stunningly gorgeous > cute and little, lol.  It's really all so juvenile I just need to get over it.  I think ever since I met FI's sister (I was even told beforehand that she was a "princess" by family members) she has always been flat out perfect.  She's well off, successful, super tan, super gorgeous, tall, slim, amazing baker, etc. etc.  That's all I've been hearing about for what seens like forever.  Now hearing all of my friends and family echo that sentiment I was just like JFC I get it!  I told FI she better not upstage me on my wedding day ;)  That's immaturity at its best.

Chels, that's what I was thinking too.  I don't think you can say it's "worse"  it is just all around bad.  It's an interesting argument but I don't think it's an argument that people should try and have out of respect for everyone involved in both situations.

I'm a huge, huge Stephen King fan. I know he's not everyone's cup of tea since he's a weirdo, but I love him. From my experience, they do pretty well adapting his books to movies, making as few sacrifices as they can. There were a few that weren't done well (I wasn't very impressed with Storm Of The Century, Bag of Bones, The Langoliers, or Thinner), but others I have been really impressed with (Misery, The Green Mile, The Stand, The Shining, Shawshank Redemption, Pet Sematary, Stand By Me, Cujo, Christine, and Carrie).

What's funny is Stephen King was so disheartened by <em>Carrie</em> when he first wrote it (it was his first novel he tried to get published) that he threw the first few pages of it in the garbage. His wife actually fished it out and encouraged him to finish writing it.

I know so much useless trivia, it's ridiculous.

I totally know how you feel.  My SIL is a model, and can do no wrong in her dad's eyes.  I'm always going to be the short fat girl in the family who argues (aka, has an opinion different from what FIL says).

SIL was a bridesmaid, and I was really worried that she'd treat the aisle as a runway.  But in my experience, there's absolutely no way to be upstaged on your wedding day.  You'll be glowing, no one can compete with that.
