After Parties

Stephie's post got me thinking about how fast the reception goes by, and now I'm wondering if any of you had or plan to have some kind of after party? Our reception ends at 11, but some of my friends and all of FI's friends are night owls, so we plan on moving the party to a nearby bar if people feel the need to keep the party going. (Which, by the way, any suggestions for good places near Lakewood Theater in Dallas?) I figure, Courts and I have been together for four years and have lived together already, so there's not really any reason to rush to the bridal suite *wink, wink, nudge, nudge* and I want to party with our friends as long as possible. We'll have plenty of alone time on the honeymoon. What are your thoughts? Any words of experience or cool ideas for an after party?

We went to blackfin in Addison after our reception. It was alright. There were only a few of us at first because there were a lit of "hookups" back at the hotel lol. They joined us though and we kept the party going till 2am. The best man was sooo drunk that he put a cigar out in my face but other than that it was a good time.

We did, but mainly because our receptionwas in the afternoon. Words of wisdom... If you plan on it being rowdy make sure you eat throughouthe day. ;)

We are planning on having an after party with our close friends and siblings. We thought we might just rent a room at the Gaylord and go to the glass cactus. No solid plans yet though.

My BIL now spread the word of the after hours party throughout our reception, we didn't plan anything specifically. Most people were from out of town and staying at the Renaissance, so everyone went back there and closed down the bar. We didn't go because we didn't know about it and were exhausted. Although, we had a few more glasses of champagne by oursleves at OUR hotel before getting up to the suite. I wasn't ready to take my dress off. :)

Funny you mention that because I was thinking about Steph's post and was going to reply but haven't yet.  Our reception is over at 10pm and we did that for several reasons.  1.  In most cases, not all, people tend to leave earlier or after the cake cutting.  I am older so alot of guests are on the "older" side.  The youngest person there will be 28 but most will be in their 40's and 50's.  2.  It is Halloween  3.  TCU's homecoming is that night and 4. We have alot of OOT guests and we want to spend as much time with them as possible so we spread it word of mouth to the guests that we are having an after party/going out after the reception.  Have you thought about Lakewood Landing or Tipperary Inn?  PS.  Aren't you getting married on 10-31 too?

We are just having a cake and punch reception at our church, going to down town Fort Worth to take a few more pictures, eating dinner, then meeting up with everyone at Billy Bob's. Our wedding starts at 3 though so that will give everyone time to change and eat before they make it out.

We are having the reception at the church.  So it's probably going to only be a few hours.  We are thinking we are going to rent a suite at the W and have an after party.  We really want to party with our friends not run off and be by ourselves.  We have plenty of time for that!

we got married at the tribute and they have like 8 rooms upstairs so we rented them all out for friends and had the after party upatairs on the balconies. it was perfect bc no one wlse was there so we could be as loud as we wanted. dh and i did call it an earlier night than everyone else... we were so exhausted

We are leaving for our HM the next morning at 6 AM so there will be no afterparty for us (plus we've waited to do the deed so I'm sure Justin will be ready to get the HM started! LOL)......though I imagine some of our younger crowd will end up doing something!

Haha! Thanks Stephie! I'm really excited about Billy Bob's because James Otto is playing that night and I LOVE him.

My favorite place in Lakewood is Times Ten Cellars. The only problem is they close at midnight so you will only have an hour with them.  The Tipp is closed down so that's not an option anymore.  lakewood really doesn't have a lot of late night options but when I am there I always end up at Cosmo's.  It's pretty dumpy but has lots of character. Not sure I would want to be in my wedding dress there but then again, why the hell not? it's much better now that they don't allow smoking. You could take the party over to Mockingbird (Central 214 at the Palomar) Trinity Pub at Mockingbird Station, etc.  Greenville tends to skew a little young and probably not ideal for an after wedding party. Just some ideas!!! good luck!

Alana - Good point! I definitely plan on NOT dieting that day!TCU - No, I'm getting married on 10/30/10. FI really wanted a Halloween-y reception, but he waited until June of this year to propose, and there was no way I was planning a wedding in four months!Lindsay - Haha, I guess y'all had better scurry off to that honeymoon suite!Mockingbird would be ok, I guess. Would the Henderson/Knoxville area be too far from Lakewood?

The lobby bar @ Hotel Palomar is open til 2:00am on weekends.  What kind of atmosphere are you looking for?  There are definitely lots of options on Knox Henderson since that's the happening strip... upstairs at Cuba Libre?  Isn't there a wine bar over in that area as well?  Barcadia for something casual?  I think they're opening a lounge type bar behind Park Henderson soon.

I do like Barcadia a lot. And FI went to a lounge-y type place for a friend's birthday a couple weeks ago. However, since the wedding's not for over a year, I'm sure some places will have closed and new ones will have opened by then. We really like a wide variety of places, like minc lounge, the Grapevine in Oak Lawn, and Sweetwater in Denton. It will probably depend on what we feel like doing when it gets closer, though.

I agree with what Wagner has said about Greenville Ave. Wow, apparently I am out of the loop. I didn't realize that Tipp Inn had closed. I have been to Times Ten and I like it but she id right about it closing early. I am more like you, a loungy/low key type of place. I would not want to end up on McKinney Ave/Greenville Ave, where all the college students or young people hang out (no offense). Have you thought about some really different places like The Doublewide, Lee Harvey's, etc? I use to go out alot but have haven't been out in Dallas since last year. I just got really burned out on it. I am more of a FW gal. Funny how things change. Have you looked up Guidelive.com and go to the Mr. Dallas section? It normally has listings, etc. for nightlife in Dallas.

Hee, I met FI at the Grapevine of all places!  :)  How I ended up there, I still don't know.  But I do love it!
