Anniversary Gifts

So Friday is our 7 year anniversary (crazy! and woah it's about time we got hitched) And I *thought* we weren't doing gifts, but FI is taking me away for the night on some surprise getaway so that's her gift to me so I kind of need to get her something. Money is a little tight so I'm looking in the under $150-$200. I feel like all I ever give her is a Coach bag (though she has said she needs a new wallet so that's not out of the question) or jewelry.

What's the best anniversary gift you've ever received? And don't give me some homemade BS, I'm not crafty and I need to go to the mall during lunch lol.

Re: Anniversary Gifts

  • She likes Coach?

...Does she have any Coach perfume?

  • I got FI a ps3 sooooo unless she's a gamer i'm no help lol. Best gift I ever got would be any kind of jewelry, my FI has the best taste and I'm slowly building up a nice collection, so I guess I would vote for jewelry. Oh what about a blue sapphire necklace that can be her "something blue"? I'm cheesy I know
  • Wow I'm wracking my brain right now. DH and I usually just go to a nice dinner. And he gets sexual favors, cause I broke and it's all I can afford.

    Does she like spa days?

  • She wears D&G perfume which smells AMAZING on her, she's super picky about perfume I don't know that she'd like that too much as a gift.

KD's spa idea is a good one.

One of my favorite and most often used gifts from FI is my iPod.

Maybe it's just me, but I love gift cards to stores that I love. Some people don't think there's enough thought put into a gift card but I don't feel that way, especially if the person knows that it's for a place that I frequent like Barnes & Nobe or Bath & Body Works etc.

  • We don't do anniversary gifts, but for Xmas last year, FI got me a new iPod and engraved it with "For my most precious, For the love of my life". I actually cried, because it was so sweet.

  • I love to get GC's too, with things like books or candles I'm kinda picky and would prefer a GC than something I might have to return.

  • Mine wasn't anniversary gift but a Valentine's day gift.  He had a clear wine bottle and had it engraved to say "I love you."  Inside it he put dried rose petals and wrote me a letter then put a cork in the top.  It was my "message in a bottle" and I absolutely loved it.

  • Oh... but the Coach perfumes are so yummy :) But yeah it can be tough to buy for someone.

I'm trying to think about things that I would want from my fiance for our anniversary... I dunno, we usually do really small things.  Like dinner and a movie, maybe a card.  He likes to get me flowers.  One time, a loooooong time ago, I made him peanut butter cup cookies.

  • Actually... a $150 gift card to Victoria's Secret would really rock my world.

  • H and I had our first married anniversary this weekend. We had an unexpected trip to NY last week, so we didn't much money to do what we really wanted. We went to our local botanical conservatory and walked around. Then H bought me a venus fly-trap from the gift shop. I've always wanted one, but never knew where to get one, and I told H this, so he bought it for me.
While we were on our trip to NY, we ordered fancy room service, so that was our nice dinner.
  • She actually does like video games and has collected and unbearable number of plastic instruments for her guitar/DJ hero games. She hasn't played a single video game since we bought our house in Feb though, I guess now that she's a grown up she feels silly playing games? Either that or we've been too busy lol.

I like the Sapphire idea, I'm cheesy too ;)

  • My favorite thing FI and I do is for valentines day, we order take-out chinese grab a bottle of wine and sit on the floor watching a cheesy romantic comedy.

  • I need ideas myself.  My H is a pain to buy for.  I'm the easy one.

    That's what SHE said.
  • Most of my gifts have been things I've mentioned in passing and forgot about.

GC for spa service of my choice. The new book I've been wanting. He knows I get cold easy, so a cashmere sweater,my UGG boots, in winter they're nice to wear to work, then I change my shoes when I get here.

  • We've never done anniversary gifts. We just go out to dinner and a movie or something. We have enough stuff, spending time together is more important since we hardly get to see each other with our crazy schedules.

The last few Christmases we've done trips instead of gifts. The first year we were together he got me a bunch of art supplies. It was the perfect gift because it suited me. I don't know what to get a girl who likes Coach stuff, because I hardly even know what Coach is.
  • I'm screwed.  Ben's birthday is a week before our wedding and then Christmas comes about a month later.  I was going to get him a Favre Vikings jersey for his wedding gift - but the Vikes are totally sucking ass right now.  The Vikes play the Packers the day after our wedding so I knew he'd want to wear it to our gift opening... but yeah.  Not sure if he'd be all that excited anymore.

He's relatively easy to buy for but I love having PERFECT ideas.  And as of right now... I don't!
    panther
  • I like the saphire idea too.  If she skis or snowboards you can get her a triple play pass for Mountain Creek which is good for three visits.  (My BFF just got that for her H and he was excited).

The best present FI got me was a kayak for our engagement/anniversary.

And you do realize that we expect an update after lunch. :)

This is my issue. Finding ideas in my price range. And DH is one where he'll mention something, and I store it in my head for future reference. Then he comes home with it.

He has mention a Raiders jersey this year.

I have 3 coach purses and every one of them was bought by DH, or I wouldnt own one.

    Same for me.

Cashmere sweater, boom-box for my ipod, VS gift card, Celtic knot earrings, a diamond pendant.

My favorite gift I ever received is a beautiful blue, jeweled flower & feather hair fascinator.  I mentioned once that my only wedding regret was that I wanted a pretty fascinator but never found the right one that would have gone with the whole look. H got me the fascinator (made on Etsy) for my birthday and told me he'd make a reason for me to wear it.  I wore it out to a fancy dinner the other night.  :)

Tell him not to buy it. That's what I do for H. I tell him to give me a couple ideas and wait until his birthday to see which one he gets. This year it's a wireless PS2 controller, but he aleady knows he's getting it. Otherwise he'd buy it himself.

Oh we've had this fight for 7 years now. So I started putting him on restriction after Halloween till the day after Christmas. If it's something I'm obviously not going to be able to afford thats another story, but geeze give me a few months at least.

He definitely earned brownie points for that one.  And i'm shocked that he actually managed to pick out a pretty fascinator!  It's beautiful!
  • Okay, I vote for the Coach wallet.

Or you could do something really cheesy like recreating your very first date together - or some other really special memory that you guys have.

    That is SO romantic.

Recreating our first date would include me being so nervous that I drink WAY too much water and visit the restroom 5 times in a 2 hour period.

Haha!  Our first date was in the summer before 8th grade, and my best friend was with.  We went to the movies to see "Rush Hour."  So we would have to go see a really bad Chris Tucker/Jackie Chan flick, and I'd have to bring a friend along.  Oh, and he'd have to hold my hand.

  • Our first date we went to The Office which is like a Fridays or Applebee's quality restaurant lol, then we went to Starbucks and then we went...back to my place. But we just made out a little :)

  • Nope, the one in Montclair. Might be the samse chain though, there's a few in NJ.
