Wow, I'll have to check that out. I like it when they do that (make the connections). One of my FB friends posted that she was watching the "Bag of Bones" show and said that every Stephen King movie/show that she has watched has sucked. I was like "Umm hello! The Green Mile, The Stand, Misery, Rose Red, Stand By Me, Shawshank Redemption, It, and The Shining were all great!". While agree that some of the movies/miniseries made from his books have sucked (like Storm of the Century or The Langoliers), don't let those bad apples ruin the whole bunch.

I efffing LOVE that show. My grandma actually introduced me to it. I haven't seen it in forever but i used to watch in the middle of the night on PBS....
  • What's Mudbound about?  When She Woke is good, but political (but really, all dystopian type books are).

  • Wow, that's totally different than When She Woke.  Interesting!

No, I don't think it's at all too similar to The Scarlet Letter.  It has a similar point and basic idea, but it is far more interesting, engaging, and though it is fairly political, I think it's far less outwardly political than The Scarlet Letter.  I honestly started off kind of disliking it, thinking "Wow, this is pretty preachy" and it's quite religious in the beginning, which I think was my biggest turn off, but I'm glad I stuck with it--it gets much better, less religious, and the storyline develops more as you get further in.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: What are you reading? : Lol The langoliers was terrible. I think everything should end with the cast holding hands and jumping in the air and the frame freezing like that. Everything.

Haha I did the same thing - I keep meaning to go back and read the book before it but I haven't yet. Also, The Robber Bride is really good - it's not dystopian like her other books, but it has the same feel to it.

  • 1: What are you reading? Nicholas and Alexandra (someone mentioned last time and I bought it right away)

2: Whats it about? The last Russian Tsar and his family & the fall of the Romanov dynasty

3: Would you suggest it? Yes!

4: Finished any books since last time? I just finished a book called Auschwitz  which was about a Jewish doctor who survived working in the crematoriums (where workers will killed every 4 months to prevent people from finding out what really happened) by working for Dr. Mengele.

Handmaid's Tale gave me nightmares for like 5 years. Really good book though. I've also read Cat's Eye. It was okay.

  • 1: What are you reading?
A Heartbreaking Work Of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers

    2: Whats it about?
It's his memoir. Premise so far is both his parents die within a few months of each other (cancer) and he is now raising his 8 year old brother (and he's in his 20's)

    3: Would you suggest it?
Yes. It won a ton of awards, and is apparently very good. I'm enjoying it so far. Very interestingly written..sometimes gets a little slow but he even tells you at the beginning which pages are slow and he doesn't mind if you skip them haha.

4: Finished any books since last time?
Yep! I finished The DaVinci Code and read all of The Hunger Games books. I'm starting Water For Elephants this week also.
