Snarky Brides

Holy Cow! I've got great neighbors!

So, FI cut the side of his finger very badly down through the pad and nail with one of my chefs knives I just sharpened the other day. He had been using a saws-all (lots of vibrations) to remove a plum tree we lost this spring in a bad freeze, so he didn't have the fine touch he usually does in the kitchen.

Well, he's known to lose consciousness with finger injuries. So, there he is kneeling in front of the kitchen sink, holding his finger under running water, with me... on crutches... holding him up by his shirt collar... as he's turning grey. Nice.

He was finally able to marshal his breathing and I was able to crutch down the driveway and yell for one of my neighbors. Both came, one helped me get his finger under pressure and move him to the couch. The other ran to her clinic for extra first aid supplies to bolster my kit. With their help, I was able to get it cleaned up and under a pressure bandage and save him another expensive and painful trip to the ER (just a few months ago a old water glass broke in his hands as he was washing it, $600 ER bill there).

I love my neighbors. Now, I get to laugh as I watch my darling, lightweight man get drunk on a single beer. Men are so funny around pain.

  • You definitely have great neighbors indeed :)

Hope your husband recovers from his injury soon!

  • I got a finger prick and passed out.  The nurse thought it was a seizure and called 911...

The hospital was like, "We only see men who faint because of blood in their fingers, not many women!"

    Gee, thanks!
It's time. Adoption saving and process started in November 2012.

  • Oh geez. One summer I was working at Mount Vernon and got a piece of glass stuck in my finger. No big deal, happens all the time. I yanked it out, dropped it into an artifact bag labeled "has Kristi's blood, only Kristi clean" and went to the gardener's shed to clean off my finger. Saw how much blood was coming out and started to black out. Stupid George Washington and his glass...

Yeah, when he cut his hand on the broken glass a few months ago, he didn't pass out until the nerve block. 7 shots in the base of the finger. Yeah, he sucked it up until it was over, and then *wham*

Katie- Way to read the situation wrong, Miss Nurse!

Barbbhoww- that is funny! Don't get me wrong, I'm sorry you cut yourself, but apparently good old George wasn't ready to have his glass dug up!

  • i dropped a heavy duty utility blade on the top of my foot with the blade out once.  i didn't pass out from the blood, but it just made me really nautious.  not to mention that it bruised the top of my foot so bad it hurt to walk, even though the actual puncture wound was only about 1/8'.  who knew architecture was a dangerous major. lol. mine wasn't as bad as some others' blade injuries.  i knew someone that literally almost amputated the entire tip of their finger.  crazy.

  • Aww.  Poor FI.  I'm sure the two of you were quite a sight!

tide- Yup, poor guy. He's feeling better now, though. Heck yeah, I'm sure we were quite the sight at the sink. I was sure he was going to fall and I'd either be holding him up by his collar, or falling right over with him!

  • Ouch! Although next time, I would avoid the running water if I were you and place pressure on it immediately to stop the flow of blood.

    Hope he's feeling better!

  • When I was in high school, my stepdad fell off a ladder while cutting a limb down with a chainsaw. The chainsaw sliced through his cheek, he hit the flatbed truck and broke 3 ribs. He hobbled inside, where my mom and I were in the kitchen, blood running down his neck and side. He even went into the bathroom to see how bad his face was.

He made it to the ER like a trooper. Then he got home and saw the blood on the truck. That's when he almost passed out and it took me, my mom, and my grandparents to get him inside onto the couch. How he could stare at his chopped up face without a problem, then pass out later at some blood on the truck is beyond me. Adrenaline, I guess.
  • Definitely adrenaline! Either that, or he thought his truck bled out? (just kidding)

As for the running water, he had it under the water before I got there. I've had almost 9 months practice on crutches over the last year, but I'm still not that fast!
