Distracted driving

Re: Distracted driving

  • Katie, I love those!

  • We finally figured the sucker out the other day (after calling Sunsetter). They said it was installed 10 years ago so I'm actually pretty amazed that it hasn't completely fallen apart. It just needs a few replacement parts.
  • I wish that texting while driving were a crime punishable with hefty fines and jail time to go with it.  Anyone who does this completely deserves whatever punishment they get slapped with.

Then again, if it's as bad as driving drunk and plenty of people have no problem with doing that, why would they care about texting?
  • Cake,  think in the future, texting will be handled just like DDing.

Ricksang I think you're right. Here in CA it's illegal but you don't give that big of a ticket, I think it was like 80 bucks? Though I think they should make a harsher law, I saw a guy hit a lady in a wheelchair because he was talking on his cell phone.

  • Yeah, I think T&D has killed several people. It's like DDing, your driving skills are impaired.

  • What do you want to text while driving with other responsible people down the freeway?

I have a blue tooth connection (hands free device) with the controls on the steering wheel. I use talk only.  Texting, no.  In fact, why do you text when you can call a person and hear their voice?

  • I quit texting when I got a BB. It's impossible. And it's damn near impossible to make a call, too, unless it's one I just made. Mostly, I just answer and it's J or someone else in my family.
I have sent 2-3 word texts at stoplights, though.
It's also hard to talk while shifting, so if I'm not in 5th, I don't answer.

Do not mess in the affairs of dinosaurs because you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew

Oh, good point.  I probably do a lot less distracted driving than many people simply because I have to have 2 hands free most of the time in order to shift and steer at the same time.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • I am one of those people who can talk, smoke a butt, and do my makeup while driving and never gets distracted.  I multi-task very well.

FI on the other hand cannot.

How can you possibly put on makeup without taking your eyes off the road?

  • It's been illegal here for years, and I am not about to risk a $300 fine to reply to a text. Plus, I have bluetooth built into my car so all my calls are diverted to my car's audio system while I'm driving.
