• It is a new thing I think it's all the tv shows and soon to be brides feeling entitlement to get whatever they want it's THEIR day, first off people take time out of their day(s) to prepare for it, you should give them some liway. I don't really care what a girl wears but I would suggest they wear shoes they could stand hours in unless they want to be barefoot but otherwise it's thier choice. Heck if a girl wanted to be barefoot as long as it's not against any health codes (since some of it is indoors) I don't care. And if it's a big  deal why don't you comprimise she doesn't wear them in the pictures? But if you want them to wear certain shoes (especially ugly ones) it is indeed your obligation to pay for it.

• Whew, glad i'm not the only one who just doesn't get the whole wearing TOMS at a wedding thing.

And REALLY? You don't care what she wears for the ceremony and photos but she must wear them for the reception? Do you plan on following her around all day/night arguing with her about shoes on your wedding day? You don't think you'll have better and more fun things to do?

• hmm. if my sister demanded I wear Toms at her reception  but could wear the heels of my choosing for the wedding, there would be an unfortunate accident between my Toms and a glass of punch. Oops, sorry about that sis.
I'm not, actually. I gave my BM's a color palette with FIVE COLORS and told them to choose a dress they loved and would wear again in any of those five colors. And I wouldn't think to dictate their footwear other than letting them know the formality level of the event. Oh, and just so you know, my bridal party consists of my two sisters and my two future sisters in law. I'm looking in the mirror and seeing that there are a few chilled out brides present. You aren't among them. Lastly, use grammar and punctuation when you post and please lay off the phrases like "look in the mirror." It'll make you seem a lot more mature if you aren't butchering the English language like a rebellious and sullen teenager.
Posted by coopergirl15
<div>All of this. I told my BMs that I wanted them in purple. Everything else was up to them. I also PROVIDED them with jewelry for the day of, and pashminas, since it was March and would likely be cold. IF they chose to wear them, great. If not, that's fine, too. As far as shoes went, I said that I was THINKING that maybe silver would look nice with their dresses, but that the decision was up to them, since said shoes would be on THEIR feet and they should wear whatever they felt comfortable in. It ended up that all 3 of my BMs wore silver shoes (mostly because two of them already had them and the third just used it as an excuse to expand her legendary shoe collection), but if they hadn't, that would have been fine, too. I certainly wouldn't have thrown a hissy fit about something so minor.

I'm looking in the mirror right now, and all I'm seeing is someone who didn't alienate her bridesmaids simply because it was (supposedly) her RIGHT to. Grow up.</div><div>

• OP, where did your sister buy her 7in stillettos? Do you have a picture of them? I'd love me some "hooker heels"

I wear super high heels everyday and if my sister called my precious shoes hooker shoes, and demanded I'd wear ugly Toms, I'd go barefoot at the reception. I don't understand why she HAS to wear stupid Toms. Those shoes are overrated, they have no place at a wedding. I'd probably buy them for my 7 year old daughter but she's a kid.

She said she wanted her bridesmaids to be comfortable. I'd rock some great fuzzy slippers. Now those would be attention getters!

• Hahahahaha love the slippers!! I fourth this!!! But I am gonna let my bridesmaids know that it will be inside and outside and I suggest they wear flatter shoes so their heels don't stick in the ground but if they wanna wear 7 in. heels i won't stop them. You do realize that a wedding is to announce your love and willingness of commitment to YOUR family and friends. Once again they take time and effort out of their day(s) to be there and it isn't just for YOU. So get of your high horse and learn to relax. It's supposed to be fun, man your wedding is probably gonna be filled with a bunch of debbie downers and nagging nancys. lol

Not... really. I told them that I'd like them to have fall colors, but they can just choose a color off of their favorite tree. No rules about style, length, et cetera, and they can wear whatever shoes they want if they want to wear shoes. So... no.

Parmelade I don't think you know what "scapegoat" means.

And MBecker, they aren't the "snarky brode form" girls they are the Etiquette Board women. Show some respect. They only dabble on the snarky board. And if you ever need help I'm a literacy tutor for adults. Seriously though, I am:

• Dreamergirl,
I can see why you think I used the word scapegoat incorrectly.  It's true that it is usually used to refer to one that bears the blame for others.  However, it is also used to refer to one that is the object of irrational hostility and that is the definition I was using in my post.
Have a great day!
