S/O - Do you believe in ghosts?

Re: S/O - Do you believe in ghosts?

  • I have always believed in ghosts and had a few strange encounters with them.

When I was 11 we moved to an old farm house in VA. Every night I had nightmares of someone coming through my window to kill me, to the point where I'd scream and run into my parent's room. Every night. The upstairs story had a large room which was always 10 degrees colder and I refused to go up there alone, even into my teens because it just felt like someone was watching me. When we moved away the landlord told my parents what had happened to the former renters. The little girl was killed in my room )by a guy coming through the window) who then went upstairs and killed the little boy in the upstairs bedroom.

When we moved into the house we rented for high school we always noticed the smell of cherry tobacco coming from a certain corner, and only at a certain time. 23 hours a day there would be no smell at all, then for 1 hour it would be overpowering. We asked our landlords and they said their father, who had passed away, used to sit in that corner and smoke. Our cats also always avoided that corner.

Also in high school, one of my friends was in an accident and passed away. One night dad drove me to the cemetery so I could lay some flowers on her grave. I was sitting down talking to her and suddenly I heard dad yell "Get away from her!" and come running towards me. I looked around but didn't see anyone, and dad swears that he saw a man in a top hat coming towards me who disappeared when he yelled.
  • I believe in ghosts and the paranormal. I have had personal experiences my whole life. My FI and I even go GHOSTHUNTING. Call us CRAZY but we love lurking through old abandoned buildings looking for evidence. Its thrilling!!
  • I want this thread to still be going!! Come back people and tell me more ghost stories!!!

Oh also I do believe in ghosts. I hope and believe they are real because that means afterlife is real. I like the idea of me staying me after I'm dead. I believe people have souls that are separate from their physical body.

  • This is such an interesting thread!  I've never had an experience (and I don't think I want to), but my FH lived in a house with something else in it as a child.  At one point it even wrote its name in the bathroom, but his mom claims not to remember (sure....  that seemse like something I wouldn't be able to forget if I tried!).  It really didn't like the man FMIL was seeing at the time--objects would fly at him whenever he came into the house apparently.  It did like playing with FBIL, who was a baby at the time, though.  It would swing him in his little baby swing until FMIL would yell at it to stop.  Once apparently when she yelled at it to stop, it stopped on the upswing and didn't go down until she told it to!

All that said, I also find this thread fascinating because my dissertation is actually on ghosts!  I'm researching ghosts in Roman literature of the first century AD and exploring how the presence of ghosts in the literature at the time is indicative of a larger cultural phenomenon.  Fun stuff!

Oh okay if you insist :)

My first husbands sister passed away in a car accident when my son was 9 months old.  It happened up by the family summer home in northern wisconsin.  When my son was about 2-1/2 or maybe 3, he playing outside just beyond the cabin.  We were sitting on the porch talking and keeping an eye on him.  After a while he came up to the porch and said a lady stopped to talk to him.  We didn't see any lady and where this cabin is situated, it was so far off the beaten path that people just didn't show up.  He said she knew his name and that she was keeping an eye on him.  He described his aunt to a T.  I know he'd seen pics of her previously, but at his age I didn't think it was something he'd make up.  There had been other I guess for lack of a better word "feeling" of her being present (the car accident happened up there).

Something that bothers me now since my dad died recently is there's feelings I get about my dad being around, but they are not good feelings.  He died from MI secondary to lung cancer and we were on our way to see him one last time since he was terminal but we missed him by a couple of hours.  He died just as we landed in Tampa.  When we went the following day to arrange for his memorial service, the funeral director asked if we wanted to see him and both my brother and I said no since we prefered to remember him as he was when we had last seen him 2 months prior.  (Since we had seen him he had lost 30 lbs and my mom said he looked terrible)  I think he's pissed because we didn't see him?  I dunno; I just feel really weird about it.

Sorry for the length.....the second part about my dad just rankles and H does not believe in these type of feelings so I just keep 'em to myself.  Felt good to put it out there.

Oh, Potter...you and I have had our differences, but this video made me laugh so hard. So hard. I even made my husband watch it with me, which was a big deal for me because it meant admitting that I was messing around on the internet instead of doing work. Now he thinks I'm lazy.
  • yeah that video is a youtube gem haha. that guy has a bunch of other videos, most of them are ridiuclous. but this other one is my favorite too : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MV1cjTvVkk

  • Marrin that's a crazy story. I bet your son was seeing his aunt. I love stories like that - I would love love love to see friends and family who have passed away.

So sorry about your Dad. That's so hard.

(Yes I know I'm totally bringing this thread back from the dead BUT it's about ghosts so it's appropriate right guys?!)
