  • Oh jeebus that sucked butt. My boss got all weird and tried to talk me out of it and then guilt tripped me for half an hour about it. I took my leave as fast as I could and then the sales guy quit. Apparently it wasnt pretty when he left.
  • but you did it!

the guilt trip probably because now he is going to realize how valuable you were and it's his loss

keep your head up and don't look back!

  • Still proud of you Nebb.  And it's OVER.  Thank goodness eh?

...BTW, I'm getting a really strange de ja vu about this whole situation.  Did someone else on SB quit recently?

  • Well, you did it, and that's what counts.  Now, go celebrate you new job with a beer.

  • I celebrated my new job with shopping, beer comes later. Its surprising how many tops look dumb as shiit on me. I found a BEAUTIFUL top that was some kind of silky material and to die for and they didnt have my size :(
  • So you're done forever and always, no stuff at the office, nothing?

  • I am DONE. I know my boss was pretty pissed about the no notice thing and he told me numerous times that it wasnt a respectable thing to do, which I know, but it doesnt change anything. I cannot stay there, not for anything. He said it made no sense when I said I needed a job with more stability/security, he kept saying how it made no sense - im sure it makes sense to him now. He made a snide comment about how convenient it was that we both quit on t he same day.
  • How doesn't it make sense?   Didn't your ahem ex-boss see the signs of morale dropping down the drain?

Sure, it might not have been the most respectable thing to do, but when push comes to shove, and you want out, people find more demoralizing ways to leave, and you left with your dignity intact.

And you didn't voice any opinions when the sales's person left as well, you weren't collaborating out loud were you?

  • Sorry it didnt go better, but it's done. I'm sure you'll feel better in the end.

And doesnt it suck when you find one cute thing in the store and they dont have your size? I have to go shopping this weekend, not looking forward to it.

  • What did sales guy say to the boss when he quit?

  • Well I left before he did it, and I didnt mention anything to do with the sales person when I said I was leaving. I also refused to touch on whether I had another job, my boss commented that he would understand if I was giving no notice because I did find one but I didnt even want to get into it - if I then said that I wasnt comfortable discussing it, it would be pretty clear where I was going.

My boss said that he has assured me time and time again that he will take care of me but... if 80% of the sales leaves how can I be so sure my job is really all that safe?
  • you did the right thing.....

I typically give notice too but there have been situations like you were in where they say they will take care of you and stuff falls through - best to look out for yourself.

PLUS...if you had stayed and given notice how weird would those two week have been?

  • So basically you were insider trading- Selling before something only you knew about happened that would drive the value down. Way to go!

  • I guess I was insider trading! Martha Stewart and I finally have something in common!

I also think if I had given 2 weeks and stayed after the guy left too (he gave no notice as well) the 2 weeks would have been absolute hell.
  • then you are fully justified!

when do you start the new gig?
