Snarky Brides

Where are you?!

TK was dead earlier for me, but it seems to be working... unless there are threads I can't see. Where is everyone?

H is brewing beer at a friends (I may have guilted them into not doing it here. I hate that smell so much, and I had a migraine this morning.)  So now it's just me and the pups lounging around the house.  I'm bored.

Re: Where are you?!

  • Hola.  We went out and bought a gorgeous tree for the front yard today.  The stupid city changed the streetlights to super bright bulbs that have been flooding our back yard with light and ruining the pretty garden light effect.  But I think our new tree will do just the trick one it gets delivered this week.  And the tree is SO pretty.

My H is out digging the hole while I play good wife.  Bringing him lemonade, doing the laundry, putting new sheets on the bed, making beef jerky, and working on homework.
  • Hey!  I'm here for about 20 minutes.  Can I be an ungrateful brat for a second?

We planned to have dinner with H's parents tonight.  We were going to go out to a restaurant near their town (which is about 40 minutes from us) that we love.  We're celebrating H's birthday (which was on Thursday), and his dad's birthday, which was on Wednesday.  Kyle called to tell them when we'd be coming, and they said they changed their mind, and wanted to make us a nice, homecooked meal.

They did this to us last time we had planned to go to this restaurant too.  It frustrates me because while we like the restaurant, it's not enough to warrant us to drive there ourselves for a regular dinner.  We only go there when it's with his parents.  And they always say "Oh, we thought you'd want a nice homecooked meal," which while I know they have the best intentions, always feels like a stab at me: insinuating that I don't provide nice, homecooked meals.  We eat at home 6-7 days a week.  I cook 4-6 times a week.  And MIL, while I love her and she's a great cook, is a terribly unhealthy cook (I can honestly get something healthier at a restaurant), and doesn't understand my gluten issues, no matter how much I try to explain.  So I always end up feeling gross after we eat there, even though I always enjoy the food while I'm eating it.

    /whiny, ungrateful brat rant.

Blue guilted me this morning for being a terrible Canadian and member of the commonwealth so Im watching the Diamond Jubilee stuff online right now. Its been raining/storming on and off for the past hour so Im not interested in doing much else :)
  • That's annoying, J.  I'd be annoyed too if they changed plans like that.  Hopefully dinner's not too bad!

Anna, I saw on fb (!)- we have a blazing maple in our backyard and it's awesome. This is a picture of it last fall.  It turned way earlier than the other trees (including our other 'regular' maple tree.)

  • It's annoying, but it's not bad enough to warrant my intense irritation.  I've been cranky all day.  Oh well.

We have one of those trees too!  They're so pretty.

  • That's so pretty Steph!

i'm so glad we found one.  I won a 50% off one item coupon for one of the local greenhouses so we were able to get a really good sized tree too.  It's already 15-20ft tall.
  • Nice!

I told H we should try and give away our lilacs on craigslist.  I'd be totally fine giving them away for free, if someone else came and dug them out of the ground.  It worked for YHL ;)   Those 'bushes' are now... 18? 20? feet tall. oops.
  • My mom has monster lilacs on her property line instead of a fence.  Every couple of years the power co. comes out to cut them back from the line.  i hate that i'm allergic to lilacs.
  • Yeah, ours are completely overtaking the power lines. Since it's a main power line (pole-to-pole, not pole-to-house), the power company is going to trim them at least. But they're destroying our chainlink fence back there too.

I'm also allergic to lilacs :(
  • Our lilacs are trying to spread all over our yard.  But I love them.

  • Somehow, a random evergreen sprouted in hte middle of the lilacs. We ignored it because we figured it woudl die. It's now like 3 feet tall, and I feel bad taking it out. ha I'd rather get rid of the stupid lilacs.

Anyway though. What's everyone up to? Where is everyone?!
  • Someone help me.

So my H has decided randomly to be nice to me and is saying he wants to go to Qdoba for lunch some day because he knows how much i love it.  He's never been and can't eat the beans, tomato, or guac, and hates soft tortillas and sour cream.  What the hell can I even suggest to this heathen I married?  ;)  Will he just have to eat bad for you 9and yet SO delicious) nachos?  I'm usually a naked burrito with all the veggies type of girl myself.

I keep thinking of places I want to move. Earlier this week I wanted to move to Alberta, then I wanted to move just a few hours away, now I want to move to England.
  • I'm sitting around the house and doing laundry. I'd like to sit out back with an adult beverage but since it's Sunday all the liquor stores are closed. I am tempted to drive to the one that is open but then I'll likely lose my parking space. I suppose I could sit out back with a non-alcoholic beverage, but where's the fun in that?

I've never been to Qdoba but do they have a meat topped salad type thing? Would he eat that?

  • I don't think he'd be please to eat anything that has a salad base ;)  but I'm not even sure they have that.  Most of their food is based off of rice and beans.  Like my naled burrito is:

    cilantro rice
    black beans
    pinto beans
    grilled steak
    pico
    grilled peppers and onions
    shredded cheese
    guac
    sour cream

I'm not much help then. FH hates sour cream and guac but he'll at least do beans and he loves salsa. At Chipotle he usually gets a burrito bowl which sounds like the same basic concept as your naked burrito.

I find it amusing that at Chipotle the salad is nearly as many calories as a burrito if you get dressing on it.

  • Can't you do hard-shell tacos at Q-doba? Otherwise just do the nachos.  What a weird picky eater.

Nebb, H would LOVE to move to England. I told him we can move there as soon as we have enough money to afford traveling back to the US at least twice/year. ;)
  • OK, in order to feel like less of a lush I'm going to meet a friend at a bar with outside seating.

I've always wanted to move to England too but the immigration process is much too daunting. I think I could talk FH into though since he'd be closer to all the big European cycling races.

<div>Do they?  hard shell tacos would work then.  Yeah, he's a pain in the butt.  I try not to fault him for the things he's allergic to but then I get irked when there is something as boring and normal as a tortilla that he won't eat.</div>
  • I love lilacs. Rose and lilac bushes will be one of my first homeowner purchases someday. I'm making Filipino adobo chicken tonight in an effort to be able to make more Filipino food. The marinade smells awesome. At the moment I'm watching his soccer game. I miss playing

  • mmm that sounds good Sere! do you have a recipe?

And, you can come take all my lilacs if you want ;) I don't think I'd mind them if they weren't so overwhelming.
  • I got it from skinnytaste.com. you can just Google it within her site. I've loved every recipe I've tried from that site. Yeah the bushes get huge! Thankfully my mom is a landscape architect and knows how to tame them because I sure as heck don't

  • good evening!! Just looking up a homemade taco seasoning recipe so I can make some tacos for dinner. yum.

I love love love lilacs. They smell so good! I would take yours but I don't actually own any outdoor land to put them on haha. I own the townhome only. :)
  • Hiya.

We just got back from the Target grocery store.  H is working on a school project and I'm in denial about going to work tomorrow.

I hear ya about being in denial for work. I start my new job tomorrow and while I'm really excited I know I'll miss my free time!

  • I really don't like the project I'm working on right now.  Usually I don't mind work.  But I'm kind of over the work I'm doing right now.
  • It's been a long day. Worked 8 hours, went grocery shopping, came home and worked for H. Now I have about an hour break before I go back to work with him again. I can't help right now (he's just mowing) but later I get to pick up piles from trimming. Yay.

But, tonight is the finale of Game of Thrones and I can't wait.
  • Hello!

We had to get up early for a charity run/walk for work today. H ran the 5k, while I walked. I came home and took a nap. So, now I'm doing laundry and I was out in the yard making my toad abode.

Puppy had his first class yesterday, he did really well. So I worked with him for a bit on that. He's too smart!

  • You don't like pizza, jcb? I used to hate salad when I was a kid, but now I love it. I'm still coming around to other stuff I hated as a kid, like onions.
  • I agree about the chain places. We used to get the best pizza from this local place, but then they went out of business. We haven't ordered pizza since. It's just not the same.
