But where you end up is a beach known to be on of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Rent it, its a fun movie.

I think I will. That sounds amaaaazing. I really wanted to go somewhere tropical and do things like hiking and ziplining and all that fun stuff, but I don't think that'll be happening any time soon. I'm just going to make him take me to the Harry Potter thing at Universal =D
In Response to Re: I am bored. : I like Harry Potter. I'm not obssessed, but they were decent books, and unlike Twilight not horribly written. HP was about the importance of friendship and overcoming adversities in the face of complete hopelessness; Twilight was about how important it is to have a boyfriend. I read a couple of her books. It's been so long though. I read Are You There God, It's Me Margaret, Tales of A Fourth Grade Nothing, Blubber, Fudge and Superfudge. They were alright, but pretty far below my reading level when I read them.
    Posted by Anysunrise
I'm going to give you a pass on HP because you were of the appropriate age to be reading them when they first came out. But I disapprove of adults reading those books as well as they're children's books and adults should be reading at a higher level.

I ask about Judy Blume because in my book she's top notch children's literature. I loved her books growing up. They were an easy read but had great stories, and real stories - not stories about wizards and vampires. My favorite was Superfudge and Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great. Other than that my favorite book as a kid (a very little kid) is Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad, Day. I still own a copy.

haha, thats awesome. My favorite pair are black with metallic turqoise lettering. They say HOPE in big letters across the front and PINK along the booty. Don't ask me why they are my favorite. They are pretty tacky. I guess they are just comfy.

Nice! We're actually doing Disney/Universal for our honeymoon. And you can bet that we'll spend a while in the Harry Potter attraction. My younger sister keeps telling me how we need to buy a bunch of souvenirs lol.

Though I agree that the idea of having a more adventurous trip would be fun too. We'll probably do that for a vacation sometime later together :D

I was 7 =D Fetus bride, party of me indeed.

I just love fantasy books in general. If it's decently written and has a solid plot, I'll more than likely enjoy it.

I've been in lurker-mode today, but I have to say: this comes across as ridiculously -- and needlessly -- judgemental. There's absolutely nothing wrong with adults reading or enjoying children's books. Just because we can read at a "higher level" doesn't mean we have to (especially all of the time!), and feeding the imagination is a good thing at any age.

JK Rowling is a better writer and world-builder than many published adult authors anyway.

Yeah dude, this is kind of ridiculous.

I spend a tremendous amount of time reading heavy material for my dissertation - when I read novels, I like to kick back with something fun. And maybe there are some of us who enjoy HP because since we're adults, we can appreciate the stories at another level..... hmmmmm?

Yeah sorry, I'm gonna agree with Sarah and others, and I don't see how you liking Judy Blume is any different than someone else liking HP. Wouldn't you ever re-read Blume to relax or for fun? Or do you just have something against all the sci-fi/magic genre?

*This is coming from someone who hates Harry Potter with a passion, but loves a good children's/teen book from time to time.

  • Actually, the HP books AREN'T for kids. When JK Rowling wrote them she did not have an age group in mind. But because the books are about adolescents, her publisher decided to market them towards kids. There's a lot in the books that goes right over a kid's head. Some really, really obscure stuff she pulls from various legends and mythology. Stuff that went over my head as a fairly well-educated 20-something until I started getting into RL and online HP communities and discussing the finer points of the books.

In fact, in the UK, there's a "adult version" of all the books, with a more grown-up looking book cover, because there's such a high demand.

And PS, I don't like all popular literature. I can't stand Dan Brown, I think he's a hack. I don't read Nicholas Sparks or any of that crap. I prefer to read classics over whatever is popular right now. Just FYI.

You can add me on goodreads if you'd like to see what I read. My goodreads name is the same as my knot name. (Actually, someone add me anyone so I can link up with you guys.)

  • I LOVE young adult lit! But, then again, as an educator, I'm fine with people just reading at all. I don't need to get all judgey-mcjudgerson on what they choose to read. Fvck that.
  • How are the Vampire Diaries books, Blue? I just started watching the show to get my off-season vampire fix while I wait for the next season of True Blood.

I read smart people books. Sometimes. But I also read YA when I feel like it and a whole lot of trash. Supernatural romance is a guilty pleasure -- minus the guilt, because I am unashamed. ;)
