H has big expansion plans.  We are taking the 40 or so feet that we didnt realize we had until we got the land surveyed so he is expanding the fence out and cutting down some dead trees so ill have tons of sun and the garden will at least triple in size.  I cant wait.

  • MilkDuds, I know this is way, WAY late, but if you're still here, I wanted to give you some support on your decision to get braces. I had mine on for a year and ten months, and it was the best $7K I've ever spent. I do not regret the decision to get braces, even though it felt somewhat like a second adolescence.

    Pics for you, my dear:

The day I got them put on (you can really see my underbite)

    One year later:

The day I got them off (my teeth felt so slippery!!)

  • Mehg, did you have a gap between some? When I got my braces I had a huuuuge gap between my four front uppers and the ones next to them on both sides, they were all wonky as hell.
  • No, I had a lot of overcrowding actually. My bottom teeth were the worst of it, which isn't really noticeable in photos, but they said that by the time I reached age 50, one of my bottom front teeth would have been pushed out so far that I wouldn't be able to close my mouth around it. Surprised

They had to put spacers in between my back molars and the teeth next to them in order make space for the bands. Also, my top right canine was still up in my gums, near my sinuses, so they had to use a spring to widen the space between the next two teeth, and it grew in on its own (thank goodness). My bottom left canine was rotated 90 degrees to the right, too, so they had to use a spring to widen that space, then turn it around over the course of about 5 months.

  • I had my braces from grade 5 till grade 9, my mouth was a mess. I had to get 4 pulled, after the gap beside my front 4 uppers the ones next to them were almost behind them instead of beside so they had to be pulled forward. It sucked :(

Mehg - my daughter's canine wouldn't descend into place, so they had to cut the roof of her mouth, attach a band to the tooth and run a little chain to her braces, and pull it down gradually by cranking the chain every few weeks.  It was weird.

  • I had that same top right canine problem.  They widened my gap and it droped down just enough that they could glue a "dot" to it and pull it down with a chain.  Annoying.

Les - they warned me that there was about a 50/50 chance that that could happen, which is why I'm so thankful it grew in on its own. It was so weird, teething like a toddler and drooling all the time. I used to rub my gums with a pencil eraser where it was growing in through my gums; it felt so good lol. One of the very best things invented for braces-wearers is this nifty little plastic thing called a bite wafer. It was a u-shaped bit of cherry flavored plastic that I would clench my teeth on after they got tightened every month. It helped relieved the pressure on my gums so that my teeth shifted a lot smoother, with less risk of their roots pulling them back to their original places once my braces were off.
