Welcome and congratulations on your engagement! I don't think November 2014 too far. My engagement period will be one year and 9 months and my best friend's engagement period is 2 years. I wanted a longer engagement so I could take all the time I needed to plan and to save up without stressing. I figured if we're planning on being together forever, there is no rush to be married right away. To answer your question on colors and themes for March, most people stick with spring colors. Pastels, light blues, pinks, purples, yellows, greens, ect. You can do a garden theme, vintage pastel theme, butterfly theme, rustic theme. The possibilities are limitless.Ultimately, iIt's your wedding and you can do whatever you like. There are no rules for what colors you HAVE to use for certain months. I am going with a coral color as my main color. I originally wanted red, black, and white but after choosing my venue, I didn't think they would go with the space. So you may want to get an idea for your guest count and venue before going with a theme. Hope that helps. Laughing
  • Thanks so much!!!! It's so hard making decisions when everyone has an opinion! It's so much easier getting help from the knot haha.
  • Congratulations!

I agree with Setti89, November 2014 isn't too far away if you would rather do a fall wedding. I know a girl who got engaged in May and wanted fall, so they are waiting an extra year, and I'll be engaged for over 2 years! If your fiance isn't in a huge rush, I would say wait the extra 6 or 7 months and do what makes you happy. You'll get your pick of vendors and possibly even some discounts for being so far ahead if you're ready to start planning.

Whatever you decide, there are so many options - just search spring weddings! :)
  • I also just got engaged and want a fall wedding but don't want to do it too soon, but don't want to wait an extra year. Me and my fiancé decided end of March/beginning of April was a great compromise :) But I agree with the others if you are willing to wait, it'll be worth the wait! I've did so much pre-engagement wedding planning I have a head start. Good luck and congratulations!! :D
  • I am in the same situation. We considered getting married late 2013 and I had this awesome vision of purple and silver and we realized it would be way too soon for us to pull it together. Does anyone have any input would purple..like royal purple be too dark for March? I know March is kind of the beginning of spring so I should do lighter colors but I have really fallen in love with the purple.

<div>I think that you could do shade of purple, and that would be really lovely!</div><div>
</div><div>I plan on having navy blue, because I am just naturally drawn to that color - go with what you like!!</div>
  • Since you are living in the Hudson Valley, does that mean you are also marrying there?

Shades of green, cream, and purple (lilac, dusty neutral grey-purple, as well as orchid pinkish purple) would look lovely, and if you're doing a waterside or green environment, you could do florals such as violets, lilacs, yellow and purple hyacinths, yellow and purple crocus, and daffodils.  Then you have nicely tied the colors to the season to the flowers.

I would avoid royal purple, or if you want that color, maybe do a theme of the Loire Valley (and have a wine pairing at the reception for the meal type).   Royal purple with gold and ivory, and use some french insignia that plays off the purple such as bees or a fleur-de-lis.  Deep purple roses, cabbage roses, lambs ear (soft fuzzy silver-grey) and birch branches painted gold with gold glitter in distressed antique looking wine crates with french lettering?  Some wine bottle table decor made with empty bottles and battery operated fairy lights - mini wine bottles as favors - wine corks as escort card or place card holders?

I think really ANY color works if you make it work into a larger/fuller theme.

I hope these ideas have helped?

    Have fun and congratulations!

    Ella
