Dress shopping tomorrow!

I am going dress shopping with my future mom-in-law tomorrow out of town. We're hitting up at least a few bridal stores for me to try on gowns. I am super excited, but it feels like I am rushing into this...

Is it too soon to be trying on dresses when I don't have the money for one yet and the wedding is still almost a year away?

    It all depends.  My dress is going to take 8 months to come in, so while I'm a year away, by the time it comes in I'll be needing to start alterations right away. 

    Most dress shops will allow you to put a deposit down on your dress, so while you may not be able to afford paying for it in full up front, you should at least be able to afford a deposit.  Also, if finances are tight, stick to your budget! Do not allow yourself to try on dresses that are over a budget you are comfortable with or you risk falling in love with something you can't afford.

    I already bought my dress off eBay after searching for one that I liked.  It is now stored in my friend's (finished) basement until I need to get it altered!  I don't think it is ever too early to start thinking about what you like and what looks good on you.

    Oh I agree with the others.  I feel like I'm a bit late since I've not even started shopping for gowns.   Definitely go, enjoy yourself, and I agree with PP that  the only unbreakable rule is do not allow yourself to try on gowns over your budget.

    And be open minded.  You never know what's gonna look amazing on you.

    This 100% the dress I fell in love with was a combo of everything I was avoiding. When I put it on I 100% knew it was my dress and I knew before I even got it on when I saw it.

    You should go when you want! I honestly would have already started because I am SO excited for the dress shopping portion of wedding planning, but I had set a weight loss goal for myself a while ago and am nearing it, so I am holding on off on trying on dresses so I feel as least stuffed sausage-y as possible!  I hope it went well today!

    I was going to wait until June-July to go dress shopping for the first time. (I hated the idea of rushing into it.) But my BEST FRIEND/MAID OF HONOR/SISTER got accepted into her study abroad program so she's leaving this January and will be returning Late July/Early Auguest. 

    Since I CAN NOT under any circumstances go dress shopping without her (a vow we made when we were 5 & 8 and continued to remind each other throughout the years, and pshh she's my absolute best friend, I couldn't do it with out her anyway. My FSIL is a close second.) 
    So, we're going shopping the weekend before Christmas and I'll have my first fitting in June so I have time to diet & exersize until then. 

    For me the time was right for my assorted reasons. 

    If you feel ready to go dress shopping, if this is your right time then go dress shopping, go dress shopping. The girls (My mother, his mother, his sister, my sister, and my cousin-in-law) and I are all really excited for having this shared secret. Even though this is much earlier than I ever wanted to go shopping, I've grown to  see all of the wonderful beneftis that come with purchacing a dress early, like being able to import a sample of your dream gown  from overseas :-)

    I am excited for you to go dress shopping! However, I would have felt awkward if I didn't have a way to pay for it.  How can you really commit to a dress if you don't even know your price range and what you can afford.  I suggest taking this time to look but figure out a budget.

    To be honest, when I tried on dresses I went in knowing the style I wanted. I had vowed to never get a strapless dress, but every single one I tried on was strapless! The woman at David's Bridal knew what I wanted when I didn't even know! I found the most beautiful dress that is something I never would have thought I'd like. It is now officially my dream dress.

    Sadly, I am broke as of yet. I can't do credit (I'm 17, don't judge!) The woman at DB said that it is going to be discontinued soon and that is why it is on clearance... I was planning on losing weight, but the dress is a little big on me as it is, so I don't know if I should buy it anyway because it would take A LOT of altering...

When they announced their fall collection, guess what dress was listed as a new style, not a single thing different? Yuuup! My dress! Same price. I still bought my dress when I bought it bc it was a reasonable timeline, not because the salesperson was telling me ZOMG this dress won't be here in two weeks!</div><div>
