Wedding Officiant / JP

I have read that I should start meeting with wedding officiants or JPs now.  Has anyone started looking or already have one?  We are not getting married in a church, we are having our ceremony at the same place where our reception is going to be.  I am not sure when to start meeting with them.

Also, I got my wedding dress in a couple weeks ago and I was wondering when I should start with the alterations.  I feel like it might be too soon right now but I am not sure.  Any ideas?

Re: Wedding Officiant / JP

  • We are having Fi sister officiate the wedding we wanted it to be alittle more personal than just a random jp
  • We already hired our JP.  He is awesome!  I love his personality and he is going make the ceremony very special for us.

  • My stepdad's cousin is going to marry us. He is a 20+ yr Marine that retired a few years ago.

With regards to your dress, I believe you start looking into alterations a few months in advance. You have a while on that!

  • I am going to start looking for a JP today and hopefully set up some times to meet with some.  As far as the dress goes, I am going to wait a while for that, I plan on losing some weight before the wedding but it hasn't been going so good!

  • We also already hired our Officiant. We had a top three list and two of them are already booked! So yeah, we booked as early as we could to make sure we had the best of the local best :-)

I'm going dress shopping in December only because my MOH is studying abroad this spring. I wont get fitted for alterations until she gets back home in June, both because I want her there at EVERY fitting and because I am on a goal to get back to my "when we met" weight  :-)
  • I'd book all of your vendors early so you can shop around and secure the one you like the most.

For your wedding dress... I would personally weight until you're about 6months out before your first fitting. But that's just me, I know personally my weight can fluctuate dramatically in 6 months.

  • My sister just got married this Aug and her first dress fitting was in June. Most places don't need more than two-three months to make your dress fit perfect.

  • We booked our officiant in August. For most major things I think the earlier the better, that way you have time to "shop around" and get who you want, not who you have to because they are all you can find.

As far as your dress, I was told to come back 4 months before the wedding for my first fitting. I wouldn't go much sooner than that. I am also one whos weight can change month to month.
